Bye Bye Saturn

Good read, but really doesn't provide any insight to what's going to happen to saturn. It's all speculation. I agree with it, but I think we all have expected some brand downsizing.

I never really appreciated Saturn I guess :sigh:

It probably does branch GM out of its core group of buyers. Your Toyota crowd wouldn't buy a Chevy, but Saturns are cool.

I remember reading in one article that supposedly part of GM's plan is to sell off Saturn, Saab, and Hummer.

Why are they stopping there?

Buick, Pontiac...GMC?

Because they are trying to get back to just their core lines of Chevy, Cadillac, Pontiac, GMC, and Buick. Though I can see Pontiac being the next line to be retired. Buick is a popular line Asia, so that line may be discontinued in North America and will just exist over seas like Holden in Australia.

They just posted another 9.6 billion dollar loss and burned through almost 6.2 billion in cash for the quarter, I'm no economic genius, but i have to believe that gm can not sustain this current trend for to much longer! The cutting of certain brands lines should have been done over a half a decade ago, it's to little to late IMO I'm afraid.

I just heard this on the radio this morning. The GM bosses are at the White House front doors asking for more cash, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I do not know if they have a stable plan yet to warrant this next load. But back to the topic, my wife has a Saturn Vue hybrid, and it is a good car. She has had a Saturn vehicle for the past 6 years, and never a problem with them. But I can see where they will be cut loose in the near future. Too bad.

Because... when the car market is not totally in the toilet (as it is now) Buick and GMC make money.

Saturn does not. Hummer is a thing of the past. Saab is too far removed and inefficient to keep.

I don't know about Pontiac.

This article is nothing but some flunky blogger's opinion. Absolutely ZERO facts to back up anything said. I do believe Saturn is probably not long for this world, but this article tells us nothing newsworthy at all.

Should've been gone a long time ago IMO.

Ditch the union and keep the brands. Continuing down a failed economic course is suicide. Giving up product lines is a short term solution only.

There are generations of families that just bought Oldsmobile. When Olds went away I am sure GM did not keep all of those customers. They could get lean and employ and produce according to demand, most industries do it that way.

Saturn never thrilled me and I never darkened their doorway, but those owners I spoke to liked the product. SAAB sells well in the north east, or did anyway.

Overpay employees and over produce and you go broke, simple. Even a crack addict has to dry up when supply, demand, and revenue don't jive.
