Check Engine Light- Questions

Hi all,

Just got an '06 Savana with the 4.3L.

Today MIL comes on. Is there any way to check codes on these with out a scan tool? On my Chrysler you can turn ignition on-off 5 times quick to get some codes.

If not, I'll be buying a scan tool tomorrow. Where will I find the OBD port? I haven't looked, but I presume it will be under the drivers side dash?

TIA,

Brad

Under drivers side dash is correct. You can't miss it

Bought a nice scan tool, plug it in according to instructions and the scan tool will not start up. Could there be a fuse out? I know the cigarette lighter does not work.

Are the fuses under the hood?

Some are under the hood. Others are inside. My cig. fuse is under the hood. Fix the no power to lighter problem that should clear things up. Also make sure your scanner is plugged in good.

Damn, I wish I got an owners manual with this van.

Oh, this forum is a great resource. Thanks,

Got my fuse located(under the hood...holy cow tight squeeze there), replaced it and got my scanner hooked up. Got code P0128 which indicates a possible faulty thermostat. Makes sense too since the temp gauge always reads at around 70* after some time.

Does this sound likely?

Are we talking celsius? If so that's only about 158F. Way too low. Sounds like you've got a stuck thermostat.

I don't think the gauge specifies *F or * C. The gauge ranges from a low of 40* to a hi of 160* with 100* right in the middle of the operating range.

Ya, sounds like a thermostat, huh?

Got to be Celsius. 100c is 212f. Duh! I see you're from Ontario. Are you getting heat from the heater core? Does it take longer now to get heat compared to when you got the truck?

My mistake...it does *C on the gauge, and it goes from 40-125 with 100 in the middle. It never goes above 70*. I just got the van last week. What is proper operating temp?

It shows a 195 F. stat. That would translate to like 90 C.
