Cherrydogbrad Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hi all, Just got an '06 Savana with the 4.3L. Today MIL comes on. Is there any way to check codes on these with out a scan tool? On my Chrysler you can turn ignition on-off 5 times quick to get some codes. If not, I'll be buying a scan tool tomorrow. Where will I find the OBD port? I haven't looked, but I presume it will be under the drivers side dash? TIA, Brad
Cherrydogbrad Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Advance and AutoZone will read codes for free. Ya, I'm in rural Ontario. Only game in town is Canadian Tire. Thanks though.
txab Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Under drivers side dash is correct. You can't miss it

You can't miss it Bought a nice scan tool, plug it in according to instructions and the scan tool will not start up. Could there be a fuse out? I know the cigarette lighter does not work. Are the fuses under the hood?
txab Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Some are under the hood. Others are inside. My cig. fuse is under the hood. Fix the no power to lighter problem that should clear things up. Also make sure your scanner is plugged in good.

Thanks, Brad
Cherrydogbrad Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 Got my fuse located(under the hood...holy cow tight squeeze there), replaced it and got my scanner hooked up. Got code P0128 which indicates a possible faulty thermostat. Makes sense too since the temp gauge always reads at around 70* after some time. Does this sound likely? Brad
txab Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Are we talking celsius? If so that's only about 158F. Way too low. Sounds like you've got a stuck thermostat.

I don't think the gauge specifies *F or * C. The gauge ranges from a low of 40* to a hi of 160* with 100* right in the middle of the operating range. Ya, sounds like a thermostat, huh?
txab Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Got to be Celsius. 100c is 212f. Duh! I see you're from Ontario. Are you getting heat from the heater core? Does it take longer now to get heat compared to when you got the truck?

I just got the van last week. What is proper operating temp?
