depends a lot on what you're using the truck for AND now which trans you have.

 

I think the best overall gear for the 4L60E is 3.73, unless you're towing a lot then you'll want 4.10s. 3.42s will help improve highway mileage, but if you dont drive a lot of highway those gears are a little too high and you'll be using more gas to get your truck moving for city driving.

 

If you have a newer truck with the 6l80E... then yes, 3.42 over 3.73s.... no doubt about that- unless you're towing 8k constantly then you'll want the 3.73s.

 

but again... its VERY subjective to what your truck is used for.

WOW im an idiot, I forgot to tell you guys that I have 35'z on it! 350 tbi, automatic, i think its the 4L60E , but not sure...1995 gmc.

i commute to work and back, but also like to take it out camping and wheelin!! i dont have anything to tow...yet!

Just a little FYI i had 4.10s stock. I got BETTER highway gas mileage with 4.88s than i did with my stock 4.10s when i had 35s (75-80 mile round trip daily traveling 70-75mph)

I bought it just a couple days ago and havent even gone through one full tank! lol I can say that almost 1/4 tank used and gone 63 miles! thats about 240m iles per tank, i dont even know how many gallons my tank takes!

 

So I will probably get 4.10'z to give me good overall use.

Where is a good place to get gears for front and rear? AND what info do I need to order....such as, axle size (10 bolt), spline size, reverse cut for ifs....and so on.

if you're just ordering gears, all you need to know is GM8.5" rear and GM8.25" front... on the site i posted you can search by your trucks year/make/model or just using the diffs.

it has a 26 gallon tank..

 

but in my truck when it is "empty" it still have 6 gallons left.. for example today it was deep in the red on empty and i only put in 20 gallons and it clicked off.
