Key Buzzer

Has anybody removed the anoying ringger that rings when you leave the key in the ignition and have the door open? I have a 2008 GMC, and when I am working on it, or sitting there with the radio on and door open, that damn buzzer dings and dings and well, you get the point.

Your outta luck because the chime/tone is generated by/thru

the radio unit itself. Depending on the year you can either

set it to tone off/tone high/tone low.

Check your owners manual.

Here's what my manual says about it for my '05 Tahoe. Seems you can make it louder, but not quieter.

 

Chime Level Adjustment

The radio is the vehicle chime producer. To change the

volume level, press and hold pushbutton 6 with the

ignition on and the radio power off. The chime volume

level will change from the normal level to loud, and

LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change back

to the default or normal setting, press and hold

pushbutton 6 again. The chime level will change from

the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear

on the radio display. Each time the chime volume is

changed, three chimes will sound as an example of the

new volume selected. Removing the radio and not

replacing it with a factory radio or chime module will

disable vehicle chimes.

DAMNIT!!! GM needs to employ some engineers who actually drive and use these trucks! I wish there was a way to pull the key out of the ignition like on my old '74 while its running, or at least an acc position where I won't hear that crap, but oh well, I guess until GM hires me to fix this kind of stupid shit, they will still be losing money!

With my truck you can turn the key to run and it will only beep maybe 5 or 6 times and then it will quit.

On my 07 you can take the key out a little bit and shove it back in and it quits while the key is in the off position....as for when you have it on and the door open, I'd go with turning the key to acc and it'll quit.

I added a couple of amps and replaced the speakers but kept the factory head unit and my chaimes are long gone.

Don't know where they went but they are gone

I have an 08 Silverado and I just pull the key out and then put it back in the ignition, then turn the key on. the buzzer quits. Hopes it works for you, it also works on my son's 08 Avalanche

Ok I posted this a while ago. What I do is flip the locking mechanism over with a screwdriver or something like that. No worrys nothing drastic, that stops the chime because the truck thinks the door is closed. THEN what I do is write a note and put it on the headrest so I dont try and close the door with the latch flipped over. LAUGH all you want but I haven't FKD up the lock yet, and no annoying chime while I'm listen to music while working on the truck.

I didn't realize the buzzer switch moved to the latch instead of the old button on the door jamb? If that's the case then this ^^ is actually a pretty good idea.
