How Cool Is Your Job?

I buy cars for a living. Lots of cars.

I work about 4 days a week... going to auctions and driving a lot to view vehicles. I bid on and buy a LOT of them. I see my office about 2 hours a week. I carry a laptop, wireless internet, cell phone, bluetooth, my .357, and a lunch cooler in my car with me. No real boss to speak of. No schedule that I don't set for myself. No shit taken from anybody. Overall it's a pretty cool job. I can't really complain.

I'm a landscaper at a 28 acre mini-golf course. Two 19 hole courses, both with practice greens, and about 5 ponds. The place is huge. The best part about the job, is as long as I let the boss know ahead of time, I pretty much can work whenever I want. Show up at whatever time I want, and leave when I'm finished with whatever I'm doing. Basically, it's an extremely low-stress job. :D

I work on a ship. First Engineer onboard a ship that is ported in Houston, Texas y'all. My ship has twin diesel engines putting out about 8000 hp each, running on diesel, burns about 55 gallons per mile. Take that Greenpeace.. As a First Engineer I am responsible for all of the machinery on the ship, operating and maintenance. I have 4 guys working for me now and at sea I have about 10 guys, I have 1 Boss. As long as the machinery is running and the lights stay on I can do what I want. I can work on electrical controllers one day and a diesel engine the next. Pick your poison! When the ship goes to sea and we get into a different port, as a sailor we are duty bound to get F'ed up, then turn to the next morning for work. My job has taken a small town tractor mechanic all over the world. But the best part of my job.... I don't have to pay for the parts! :D

I'm a commercial/ industrial electrician. On the coolness scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 7. It depends on the job I'm on. Warehouses, schools, strip malls are very boring and not cool. But airports, stadiums and hospitals are pretty cool. I don't have an office. I get a change of scenery on a regular basis. As long as I'm doing my job I don't have to see the boss for weeks. I get to play with some pretty cool equipment too.

I like my job, I'd like it more if I wasn't laid off right now. :D

How cool is my job? Not very. :D

Senior systems analyst, senior/lead programmer, system/software architecture, system admin, office tech support, office DBA, office "go to guy". But the thing I like is that the software we primarily do is health care related and goes towards benefiting people's health in the province here. Much more info would bore you all to sleep. The other contract I work on I also have the project/client management responsibilities and work with their management on things less than contract negotiation items.

I can't complain either. It's varied and keeps me busy. :D

My job is not the best in the world...but in ain't too bad.

I fix computers and printers for a large banking co.

They break 'em...I fix 'em.

I drive all over about a 10,000 square mile area.

About 1000 miles a week sometimes more.

I am in the Dallas / Fort Worth area and my nearest boss lives in Iowa. :D

Company HQ is in Minneapolis MN

The calls come in on my home computer (if I am at home) or my Blackberry.

If nothing is broke...I can sit at home...read GM-Trucks...take Darling Wife to lunch...take a nap... whatever...and I still get paid.

As long as I keep everything fixed and done on time...I never hear from the bosses. Sometimes go for two or three weeks at a time and never talk to any of them. :D

It is about as close to being self employed as you can get...but without all of the headaches of ACTUALLY BEING self employed.

I'm a firefighter/EMT which is what I've wanted to do my entire life. As of now I'm on a suburban fire department which means there is basically no action at all other than ambulance runs and an occasional car accident. Hopefully I will be able to get on the Chicago Fire Department soon and start getting into some real action. I'm also a part-time landscape contractor which basically consists of driving really big trucks and operating the Case 445 on my off-days.

I've been in the remodeling business almost 30 yrs. I really like my job, except when I have to work out in the cold and snow like we had this year.
