Gm Extended Warranty

Hey guys. I got an extended warranty "opportunity" in the mail the other day from GM Protection Plan. Obviously my truck came with the 36k bumper to bumper and 100k limited powertrain warranty. I wanted to hear the professional's opinion, so naturally I am asking you guys!

 

Should I purchase another plan or just let it ride on the 100k limited power train? Is the limited power train worth a damn? Any advice you guys could lend would be great. Oh yea, the literature states that if I have between 24k and 36k on my truck, that I am eligible for a certain price. However, I have just over 36k currently. Should I fib and say I have just under 36 to get the pricing? Is there any way they can tell my actual mileage?

I went with extended but that was when I bought it.

I say don't buy it. I think you are better off putting money away each week in case you need repairs, if nothing major happens you still have the money. My '01 and my wifes '00 Honda run great and we STILL get the limited time offer for extended warranty in the mail.

You already have a 5 year 100000 mi powertrain warrany now why would you want to double up?

I would look at the fine print to see what's actually covered and for how long. A local dealer here that i almost bought a truck from touted their free extended warranty. To get that I just needed to pay a premium for the truck. In addition the warranty excluded a lot of stuff and had a $200 "co-pay". Since I could replace most any part by myself for $200 or less I passed on the "deal". It would have taken a blown engine or trans to come close to making the warranty pay off.

After 3 years, only "internally lubricated parts" are covered. Her Impala had the power steering pump go out with more than 36,000 miles on the car. They wouldn't cover it. Unless you throw a rod or blow a head gasket, GM won't cover it.
