2002 Chevy Trailblazer Drivetrain Whine

My wife's trailblazer developed a horrific wine this past winter out of the blue. It sounds like the thing has Boggers on it when going down the road.(but it doesn't.. damn) It starts at about 40 and progressively gets worse as speed increases. I have jacked up the front end and checked cv shafts, ball joints, tie rod ends, u joints, etc and all looks tight. The tires are not wearing uneven and all the weights are still on all the rims. Anyone else have this problem or know of a common solution on these.

weird.... i would like to say maybe a pinion bearing.. but if it starts at 40.. that basically throws that outta the park. what kind of tires are on it? ive actaully seen some tires when they start to wear make horrible noises.

My mom's Envoy, which for whatever reason I had for a day a couple of months ago had a whine too, but only in 4x4. Turned out the transfer case needed to be rebuilt. When it 2wd, no noise. Does yours happen in both 2 and 4wd?

I found the problem. Wound up being the drivers side wheel bearing in the front. When jacking the wheel and checking play checked out ok. Spun free, no sign of any problems with either when i checked them. A week and a half later i noticed that when you turned right you could hear the rotor slightly contacting the backing plate guard. Jacked the thing again and checked them both, they seemed fine. Changed the drivers side because it just seemed like a wheel bearing issue and now it is perfect.
