Controlling Ipod Through Steering Wheel Buttons

Is there a way to control an ipod through the steering wheel controls? This is on a 2008 Tahoe.

iPAC makes a model for non-nav radios as well. I'm unsure as to the model number.

I have the Peripheral...i have a 2006 with the Nav..the old system...Is there a way I can control it through the steering wheel buttons? I have tried but i have no luck.

I have the Peripheral PXAMG in both of mine and it works great with steering wheel controls. Sound is awesome and keeps the ipod charged. I ran the cable to inside my center console, so it is like a built in music libary. Very nice.

I just installed the Peripheral PXAMG with HD Radio tuner add-on in my Sierra. I ran the cable into the upper glove box (SLE interior) and use a Bracketron mount to hold the iPod. The steering wheel controls work great.

Will any of these units allow control of the iPod from the iPod when they are connected? I know with my old Alpine and nano it would just say that there was a peripheral connected. But now with an iPhone I would like to use the Navigation and voice control over Bluetooth to control it.

 

Also, do any of there charge the Gen 2+ Touch or 3G+ iPhone? They removed firewire charging on these new units which was what a lot of these car units used.

Yes, the PXAMG one does allow it. I have that one in my truck, I got it from Best Buy and it was about $150. Works great and the added ability to use the steering wheel controls is nice I will admit. When you change sources on your radio basically the PXAMG replaces the XM1 and XM2. You still can use your XM, the adapter kinda adds a "submenu" to replace the XM source. So once you switch over to XM1 or XM2, you enter the submenu and can select XM1, XM2, iPod1, iPod2, Aux1, Aux2, or HDRadio. iPod2 streams from the same iPod port, but allows you to control strictly from the iPod itself.

If you're interested, I have a GM PAL unit that will work with your setup that I can sell you. It's new in the box, I bought it before I found out it wouldn't work with the NAV unit.
