Wheel Offset....

Hey guys!!

 

it's spring time and it's time for some new rims and rubber..

 

i have found a set of wheels i like but the off-set of them is -11mm.. the dealer says it will stick out a few inches on the sierra.. fender flares can fix the legality of this cause here in ontario we are allowed 3 inches max out from fenders..

 

my question is with the -11mm offset and depending on tires i by... will i have clearence issues while turing??

i am going to get a 33 inch tire

Yes. You will have clearance issues. You might want to lift the truck first.

Yes. You will have clearance issues. You might want to lift the truck first.

 

You don't mention the width of the wheel so I will assume you are looking at a normal 8-9 inch wide wheel. You do not want negative offset on these trucks. The wheels need to be positive offset. Mine are 9 inches wide and +25mm. They set about an inch further out than the stockers did. Negative offset wheels will stick the tires WAY outside the fender and hit the fenderwell when turning big time... especially with a larger tire. I agree with the previous poster. You are going to need to at least run a leveling kit on the front.

You'll need about 6" to run 33s on a wheel with -11 offset.

 

+18 to +30 is the range you need to get 33s on with a leveling kit, and still expect to trim some

Offset is measured from the wheel mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel.

Positive Offset is when the wheel mounting surface is outside of the wheel centerline.

Negative Offset is when the wheel mounting surface is inside of the wheel centerline.

A +18 offset will put the outer edge of the wheel just about in line with the fender edge (see my pics)

 

A 0 offset will make them stick out.

 

Its easier to talk in terms of backspace IMO... Easier to visualize.

 

In general, the best wheel for our trucks is 9" wide with 5.5 to 6.0 backspace (that means 3 to 3.5" of the wheel extends outwards from the hub) though you may be able to squeeze by with 5.0 backspace if the tires don't measure true 33

 

10 inch wide wheels are hard to fit at all unless you have 6"lift.

 

If you go with 9.5 wide wheels, try your best to get 6" backspace and Don't got less than 5.5

im guessing those numbers are not the same for my 2001 2wd as they are fo your new truck?

Correct... those numbers i posted are for GMT900 trucks. GMT800 are different, you can get away with 4.5" backspace a lot easier.. and anything over 5.5" backspace is too much

Yes!!! im revived an old thread! But atleast is shows that I'm using the search function...haha.. I have a question,

I have a 2" front leveling kit and just installed the Zone 3" Body lift on my truck. Should I still be looking at a positive wheel offset? I found a great looking set of 18"x9" American Eagle rims with a 6x5.5 bolt pattern with an offset of -11. Im planning on putting on 33" tires with the setup. Just wondering if this setup will fit on my truck?
