Service Airbag Is Killing Me !$#!%%^!%!%

I understand this has been discussed before, but I could use a more detailed answer. In my 05 Yukon XL, the "Service Airbag" message has come and gone a few times. I took it in to a dealer and the response was that the error was "from an internal source and the assembly will need to be replaced". Close to $900. From what I have read on this forum, there are a number of places throughout the vehicle that could cause this error message. Is there a specific code that locates a specific spot that is causing the problem for this message to display?

I've read of some airbag controllers which retain the error codes from intermittent problems. And others do not.

Were they able to check with a scanner and find the code? Or was this not possible with your system because it does not retain the codes in memory?

If they did not scan it, ask if your vehicle retains these codes or not.

I'm not 100% certain about your model but I believe the codes are the same for all GM vehicles. Here are the codes I've found.

This is very helpful and I appreciate it. Now I can have a discussion with the service manager that I feel was extremely vague about the reason for the error message.
