Power Steering Problem

My 98 K1500 occasionally will get into a bind when turning sharp. I had the pump replaced which didn't fix the problem. Yesterday I had had parked with the wheel at full lock to the left. When I started to back out the wheel felt as if it was locked up. I forced it to turn and after a few seconds it was ok. Today I notced PS fluid on my driveway. I found the high pressure hose had developed a leak, probably from forcing the steering the day before.

Anyone every had this problem? I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Anytime you have anything in the steering system "lock up" it is cause for alarm. First get the truck in the air and check for worn parts that might be binding. If that doesn't turn up anything, I'd get the steering box checked out. This could be dangerous for you and anybody in your path.

+1 It's obviously not the pump, you've had that replaced. I really don't know for sure what the problem is, but it does sound like your gear box. I've never gotten into one, but it sounds like something that's a little over my head.

100% your box has been adjusted to tight, if re-adjustment leaves the steering feel too loose, replace the box because it is pooched...
