It Flooded In Houston

I was real impressed with how the truck managed over the weekend. We had several ft of water outside the parking garage at work saturday afternoon, and I realized that if I had any shot of getting home I had to leave right then. I drove through water that was high enough at one point to go over the tops of my 6" running boards. Never had any water get into the cab, and once I finally made it out of the water the truck ran just fine. No performance change, no change in mileage, engine temp, tranny temp, etc.

When I finally got off the roads at home I gave the truck a walk-around real quick to look for anything. The license plate was ripped off of one of it's screws, folded over on itself and pointing straight out. I have NO idea how that happened, but it made me laugh.

My low-tone horn is dead now though. When I lock the truck it sounds like I stepped on a mouse. And I noticed this morning on my way into work that my electric fans never kicked on. Now I know they don't always run, and it was in the 60's this morning so they may not have been needed, so I'm going to keep an eye on those. My question though is about the horn. I did a little searching here and the only link I found was an old thread where someone had the same problem. There was never any resolution posted other than someone saying, "It might start working again after it dries out." Has anyone had any more experience with this, or do you think my horn could be dead? I'm going to keep my eye on the fans, it should be much warmer this afternoon when I leave work. That should give me a better feeling for the fan. But like I said, so far the engine and tranny temps have been fine.

Anyone have any thoughts on the horn?

thats funny right there, I dont care who u are.

But I have had horns work again after drying out, I drove my 94 through a big puddle and had the same problem, but it dried and worked for another few years.

Well i will tell you that your plate (on the front i assume) is bent up because you were going through water that was being pushed up under it and the plate is held at the top so the plate got bent. This happened to me last September in Wichita with a 2 ton international going through 3 ft of water.

had this happen on my 05 yukon it sounded horrible for a couple days and then went back to close to normal but i dont think it ever sounded quite the same.

To test the fans you could turn on the A/C. Every time I turn it on in my truck regardless of whether its hot or cold out it kicks the fans on, at least I can hear them spinning away. Perhaps that might work?

The fans are working, I tested them last night when I got home from work. I wasn't really concerned about them, I expected those to still work. The horn is still buggy, who knows when/if it'll come back to life.

It took mine about 3 days to dry out enough to work properly, depending on the amount of water that actually got in it could be up to a week

MAN I ROAD STRAIGHT THREW THAT WATER... I LOVED IT. IF I STILL HAD MY Z I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK AT HOME ALL SATURDAY.

We got hit by the floods too. My neighborhood was fine. I had problems cutting through a neighboring community to get to mine though. My truck was high enough but I did have to make an evasive manuever across someones yard. The yard was fine but for the second time I've lost a lower front valance. This time it's not going back on. The thing is freaking useless. Truck did great! Many of the cars I saw..........well that's another story.

Oh yeah the stabilitrac service light stayed on for a while but it was off the next day. No other ill affects.

If you are going to keep that truck more then a few years have your insurance company change all your fluids, filters bearings etc.

I've been checking all those already - well not the bearings yet, but I will. I'm changing the oil this weekend since it's due up anyways.

I hear a rotational clicking in the left front wheel when I drive with the window down, I think it might be a bearing. It's really faint but I can hear it. I'm going to inspect it tonight and then possibly take it in tomorrow for them to look it over if it needs it.

Then again, it could also just be a rock in the wheel...

Good luck, let's hope that's all it is.

You'll be fine...I actually had water washing over the hood of my '02 Z71 once when I hit a sinkhole while crossing the river...It was fine for 30k miles after that.

Reason #247 why I don't like open-topped CAI's.
