Dl3 Mirror Question

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Silverado K1500 4x4 Crew Cab with the DL3 mirror option (OSRV MIRROR W/DRIVER SIDE AUTO DIMMING, PWR FOLD & ADJ HEAT, TURN SIGNAL). The mirrors work properly, Folding, Turn Signals, Dimming and Heat, but there are two features I'd like to have:

1. I'd like mirror settings to be stored for each Driver. Currently the mirrors stay wherever they were before Driver 1 or Driver 2 was selected, inside on the door or by remote. The truck has memory seats that DO store the settings for each driver, both inside on the door and by remote.

2. I would also like both mirrors to dip when I shift into reverse (I can't remember what GM calls this).

There are NO settings for either of these features in the DIC.

My question is, can the dealer reprogram my truck's firmware to add these two features (DIC, memory panel, or . . .)?

Thanks.

What does the owners manual say about memory settings?

In the DIC section (Section 3) , the manual mentions how to set Curb View Assist (None, Driver only, Passenger only, Both), but there is no such menu in my DIC. Curb View Assist is also mentioned in Section 2.

Regarding memory, Section 2 says "The mirrors may also include a memory function which works together with the memory seats." This feature is mentioned a few pages later, stating "Memory Seat: If your vehicle has this feature, then the controls for the memory function are located on the driver's door." (they are) "These buttons are used to program and recall memory settings for the driver's seat, both the driver's and passengers outside mirror, and the radio station presets." (Radio preset storage works properly.)

So, I think Curb View and Memory should be on my truck. To assure that I'm not crazy, I just went out to the truck and confirmed: neither Crub View nor Memory work.

Any insight?

I believe curb view only works for the passengers side mirror but I can t remember how to set it.

From what I can tell from the manual, its supposed dip passenger's side mirror, driver's side mirror, or both mirrors (the one I want), as set by a Personalization menu in the DIC. My problem is that the menu isn't there.

I have scheduled maintenance coming up and need to know if these are things the dealer can "fix," ($) or if they're options the dealer has to "add" (read: $). That will tell me how to ask the dealer for what I want.

OK, my adventure with the dealer didn't go so well.

First off, they charged me $25.00 to connect to the truck, regardless of what they were or were not able to do, which turned out to be NOTHING.

Second, they say that they truck didn't come with the two features I want (Driver Memory and Curb View) and that they can't add them.

Third, they say they can't adjust the speedo for my new, larger tires (were 265/70R17 Bridgestones, now 285/70R17 BFG KO's).

So I still have questions.

1. Does anyone know what is actually involved in adding these two features to my truck. I've searched the forum and read a lot of posts, but I still don't understand what exactly needs to be done and what tool/programmer is needed to do it.

2. Is it true that the dealer can't adjust for larger tires? A local performance shop said they could do it, but they want $200.00 just to connect to the truck. In their defense, they offered all sorts of modifications as an unrequested side effect.

Thank you in advance

Not sure about the mirrors, but for the tires the dealer should be able to adjust for different tire size. No one should be charging you $200 to do that either. Is there a different dealer you can call and ask that is near by?

First thing. Find a new dealer. :D

Second. My guess is that it must be a misprint in the manual. I have an '05 with the same options that does exactly the same thing.

My truck has the radio/DIC controls on the steering wheel. FYI, folding and heat on the mirrors works as described in the manual. It's entirely possible that the truck didn't originally come with the memory and curb view options. The manual uses a one-size-fits-many approach to cover many models and options. But I want these features.

There are two Chevy dealers here. The truck wasn't sold by either of them; it's a salvage recovery from California (we moved to Texas nearly three years ago). This is NOT a result of the salvage repair; I have had ZERO issues with the truck since I bought it, 4 years and over 23K miles ago. It was rear ended (I saw pictures) and totaled by the insurance company. I've been all over, under and through the truck, and it was repaired properly.

The guys who said they could do nothing is where I take the truck for normal service. I thought they were an independent, but it turns out they are a second, unmarked location of the Auto Nation dealer I stopped visiting. Now that I know who they really are, I understand the response I got. Auto Nation is a well oiled currency extraction machine that rarely deviates from the script. (I do have to say, they have an EXCELLENT parts department.)

There are also two GMC dealers here. I guess one of them is next.

ALL THAT SAID, I still need to know exactly what it is the mechanic needs to do. Typically I only get to talk to a service writer, not the mechanic, and I need to know what to tell him. For example, I seem to remember reading a post that said the memory panel on the door might need to be programmed.

Is anyone familiar enough with this process to help me understand it enough to deal with the service department from a position of knowledge rather than tentative ignorance?

Any dealer with a TECH 2, should be able to adjust for the bigger tires in five minutes.

Telling you they can't is pure BS.

as far as the curb view I got that when I put in my DIC off my 06 CC. I believe that is a function of the DIC so you might need ot get a new program for the DIC in order to get that feature to work. I love the curb feature, very high end for a truck
