Vortec Max Cam Swap

Recommended Posts

So, I was in Chicago to meet with Justin to tune my vortec max. We were just about done with the tune....(and I was feeling pretty good about my truck, it was amazing what he did to it.) when he dropped this bomb on me. Keep in mind that I didn't think that I would ever want or need anything more. He told me about a cam swap that would work with VVT that had been done in a 6.2 denali engine and that I could expect the same kinds of gains being that the heads are the same. Anyway I got home and read the article..here it is.

Damn it Justin! :D

I want I want!!

I know right....I don't know if I'm going to do it or not. If anyone else does please share.

How do you guys think that we would hold up to a Tundra after gains like that? (with the 6.0)

Is your Vmax a 2002?

With my 07 GMT900 Vmax, I would not shy away from a tundra with just my blackbear tune in a full 1/4mile run. A tundra would eat my lunch out of the hole because of the gearing advantage (rear end and 6 speed), but I think I would pull one after that. My best friend has an 08 Tundra. We haven't ran them yet, but I would like to.

I haven't read the entire article, I don't know what it would do for your bottom end. Tundra's are beast off the line. With an older Vmax I think it would be close, but I don't know.

Whoops, no my Vmax is an 07 as well. When I first joined the forum I had an 02 silverado, I just haven't got around to changing that yet. My truck is identical to yours, except that mine is 4wd

thats awsome!!! does anyone know if they have a cam for the 5.3 with AFM???

There is a company that is starting to make a cam compatible with AFM. I don't know whether they are on the market yet or not.
