Interested to know how many of you have 35 inch tires and have not re-geared. Is it really necessary if you do "Normal" street driving and no off-road. I would like to know if you are running 35's and have not re-geared, for how long and any adverse reactions/damage to tranny.

Depends on what gears you have stock. I had 4.10's and ran fine with 35" tires. I would have re-geared if I had anything less.

GU1 for 2:41 ratio

GU2 for 2:73 ratio

GU4 for 3:08 ratio

GU5 for 3:23 ratio

GU6 for 3:42 ratio

GT4 for 3:73 ratio

GT5 for 4:10 ratio

CHECK THESE AGAINST YOUR GLOVEBOX LIST

Most cases I've seen 3:23 ratio in 2wd trucks... if thats what you have, I'd certainly re-gear. Most places around me charge $1200 for both front/rear upgrade (parts/labor)

Do you or anyone know the stock gears on 2008 Silverado 1500 2wd are?

Truck is in the shop until tomorrow, but will check then. It has the transmission so probably not 4:10?

I am still running my stock gears with a 35. I have the 3.73s. My truck still pulls fine, but I do notice a differenece. I am going with 4.88's this summer. I don't do a ton of highway driving these days so my mpg should go up as well. Try to find out what gears you have first, then go from there.

Well, you can do w/e you want. You CAN run 35" tires with 3.42s/3.73s. You can also take your sister to the prom, but either way you aren't getting much out of it.

I drove for around a year with 35s and 3.42 gears. Lemme tell you that thing was an absolute DOG. Your transmission works extra hard with the aftermarket tires. This obviously reduces the life of your tranny over time. Regearing will allow your tranny to work MUCH more efficiently. You will regain low end torque and raise the RPMs back up into an acceptable range therefore improving your MPG.

I'm speaking from experience....REGEAR if you have the money. It is expensive, but you will be amazed and happy with the money. I am spinning my 35s when I get on the gas from a stop and can even bark them going down the road at 45mph.

I can do that with my 4:10's... However, they will not break loose at 45 mph.

Yeah...4.88s are actually the "correct" ratio for 35s if you want to get it back as close to stock with a little added low end torque.

My thought is this: If you are going to spend the money to regear, don't waste it by going from 3.42/3.73s to 4.10. The 4.56/4.88s are not much more expensive. (I've seen 4.88s for cheaper than stock ratios). There is no extra cost for the install either. :fume:

yea i got 4.10's in my truck, i had 35's now iam on 37's and it still runs good, lots of power....

How are your axles holding up with 37s? Any issues? I've got 9" of lift screaming for some new rubber to fill up the space. I want to run 37s BAD!
