Fheiss Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I have a 1994 Jimmy with a v-6 Vortec, 4X4. I bought it through craigslist. The brakes were a little hard when i bought it, but still worked. I recently put new brakes all around, and bled the system, or so I thought. I am still getting an ABS code for "left actuator valve" and "left speed sensor" and now I have no braking besides the E-brake. I went to my Chiltons on-line manual and it talks about special tools to bleed it at the main block. It feels like their is air in the system. Does this mean I need a whole new valve block? Could it just need bleeding from a dealership? Or is it possible to do it myself? Thanks Frank
bill190 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Did the online site give you procedures for bleeding everything including the ABS? And give you a part number or picture of the special tool(s) you need? How many tools needed for bleeding? I know some 4 wheel ABS systems around your year need 3 bleed tools installed while bleeding as I recall. These open up valves/chambers in the ABS and combination valve. A rear wheel only ABS system around that year is different. If the above site did not give you instructions for bleeding, you can get this from a factory service manual set (4 books) available at a GM dealer. The following picture may be the tool? And 3 may be needed?... Above bleeding tool from this site... http://www.toolsource.com/proportioning-va...77-p-61417.html

Draenor Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Try cleaning the sensor ring on the problem wheel. As for the tool pictured above, never seen 'em or used 'em. Just do the basic bleeding, which should suffice. The ABS module itself is known to be defective and problematic. My '01 constantly gives me ABS/ brake lights. I'm on my second replacement and am going to get mine rebuilt when I get the money. You can try contacting modulemasters.com, they do good work in rebuilding them, if yours is a rebuildable.
