Lesson Learned

My little brother (turned 18 in March) wanted to take my truck to his job for the evening last night. He comes home with some "battle damage"; the battle was between him, another car in a parking garage in downtown Austin and a concrete wall. Apparently he decided to take evasive action since the other car was not manuevering correctly but ended up taking out my right rear door and rear wall of the cab . So much my truck...insurance should be covering all of the damage minus the deductible. He has not taken it in for an actual estimate but I estimate the damage to be in the neighborhood of $3000 dollars if the frame was not damaged (the steps took a decent hit so they might have damaged the cab mounts). As usual, I cannot attach pictures directly to the thread so I will simply link them:

I have determined that this accident will be ruled as an At Fault accident based on his description of the incident and since the other vehicle did not push him into the wall (no damage on the left side of the truck). Not only is he out $500.00 on the deductible but he will be paying for this at fault accident for the next 5 years...he finally learned his lesson.

Sorry to hear about the terrible news. There has been a lot of these stories lately of truck versus vehicle. I'm assuming he was a driver on the vehicle's insurance... otherwise this might be more of a nightmare.

Why I dont let no one drive my vehicles.

As for the damage, The rear cab corner is my worse repair job, IMO. An minor impact such as that sould not of caused any fram damage.

Yeah I agree with that statement but he has yet to change the water pump on his car so he drives my truck on occasion

AS much as it sucks, let's be greatful he didn't learn this lesson from an Intensive Care Unit bed, and the only damage was to a wallet, someone's pride, and some body panels.

Doesn't make it suck any less, but, given the curcumstances, it may be a cheap lesson in the long run.

Ya, you taught him a lesson, brothers are jerks all they do is borrow stuff and break you stuff. you can count on this happening again.

Good gravy! He tagged that wall really good. Hopefully there won't be any hidden damage.

+1.... the only time anyone else EVER drives my vehicles is if I'm in it with them or following them in another of my vehicles. And even that is VERY rare and I'm extremely selective about who I let do it.

It has happened already . He put the front of the truck into the wall of the house a while back causing about $500.00 worth of damage to the front of the truck and before that somebody keyed up the whole left side of the truck while he had it at school....such is life I guess...

That should buff right out  . On a serious note, that really sucks man. My brother can be somewhat unreliable as well. Given how insurance works up here (any accident with my vehicle goes againts MY insurance ragrdless if I am driving or not), I think I would rather drive my bro or someone else where they need to go rather than lend them the truck. Hope is gets fixed soon.

I'm just saying, I have three brothers and I've seen this my whole life. When you lend something out to a family member they don't care enough to take care of it!!

There will be the day when he gets his own new car and when he does, I will make sure to "leave my mark on it"
