License Plate Camera Blocking

Recommended Posts

So... There has been a HUGE increase in speed camera around where I live. I am not much of a speeder, but on a straight away with no traffic it is VERY hard to coast at 30 mph or less. SOOOO now this leaves me at trying to find a way to block these cameras when I don't see them till the last minute and slam on my brakes to lower my speed before it takes a picture.

Does anyone have any experience on license plate covers, or sprays, or pretty much anything that will make it harder for them to track me down if I do "miss" some of these cameras?

Thanks.

removing both plates doesn't sound like it would work. That license plate cover looks like the route I was planning on going. I wonder if spraying the plate with that high gloss film AND using the plate cover will work.

I don't see too many cops driving around, so I am not too worried about them giving me a ticket before of the reflected glare on the plate or the cover.

I don't know how much you believe it, but Mythbusters tested all those systems and none of them worked. And if you remove the plates, they have nothing to take a picture of, you and your truck, but it's a lot more difficult to find the owner.

Take the front plate off. Thats what I did. leave it in the truck so when the cop pulls you over you have it. Cheap fast and easy.

The "No Front Plate" ticket is almost as expensive as the speeding ticket. Plate has to be mounted horizontally on front and rear of vehicle not carried inside.

The traffic cameras are not set to capture vehicles travelling close to the speed limit. The camera couldn't keep up with all the pictures being taken. Usually there is a significant tolerance given. The most common is between 40-45mph permitted in a 30mph zone. Most cops wont write a ticket until at least that.

Wait till you guys see the Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) camera that can be concealed in a road stud has been developed by a company called Astucia Traffic Safety Systems www.astucia.co.uk/ and is being tested on Australian highways. The traffic surveillance camera can take pictures of the license plates of cars speeding by at up to 150 miles per hour. The traffic surveillance camera protrudes from the road surface only 5 millimeters; it is linked to a computer that can read and decode license plates written in either italic or cursive scripts. The camera is so sensitive that it can tell if your tires are balding as your car moves by at speed. The road stud measures the speed of the vehicle as well; it can flash the car license plate and speed on a display at roadside, warning the driver to slow down. That will sure raise a few eye brows when they start putting them in our highways!

I ended up putting the high gloss spray AND the bubble cover on my rear plate and a smoked cover on my front plate. I read up on all the state laws and it seems like there is debate on what you can and can not use. I don't speed too much (+/- 10mph of limit) and have never received a camera ticket for speeding from any of these cameras or a red light camera. I just despise the idea of having to watch out for this crap every time I come up to a red light or some random side road I go down where the speed limit is something ridiculous like 25mph.... seriously my truck coasts at 30-35 without any gas.

The plate covers DO work btw. The myth busters things had a lot of faults on how they tested it. I have even started seeing them on other people's cars in the area now as well.

In many states plate covers are illegal and you can be ticketed for having them installed.

I see lots of Rustangs on the road here, doesn't mean they are good. Just people believe outrageous stuff. Same goes with HIDs in halogen housings, just because they are blue doesn't mean they are better, but plenty of people believe it, including on here, so they install them.

Mythbusters did 2 episodes with license plate blockers because everyone said that the camera sitting on a small tripod and 10' off the ground makes a difference. It didn't. Their tests were more scientific than anyone saying they do work, so I have to believe that.

Reminds me of a joke

Traffic Camera --

A man was driving along when a traffic camera flashed. He thought

his picture was taken for exceeding the speed limit, even though he knew he was not speeding. Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed.

He thought this was quite funny, so he slowed down even further as he drove past the area, but the traffic camera flashed yet again. He tried a fourth time with the same result. The fifth time he was laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past at a snails' pace.

Two weeks later, he got five traffic-fine letters in the Mail for driving without a seat belt. :sigh::):)

weird, im from montgomery co md too. the amount of cameras put up is just ridiculous. the license plate covers work, but only when a flash is involved. even going around the lines grooved into the road wont work. you can go 44 in a 35, but 45 is the magic number. some kids spray-painted the lense on the camera closest to me, but thats easy to fix. i wonder if tying a rope around the camera would bring it down...
