Hi,

On my 2004 Tahoe the gauge pegs high then It drops to zero. Goes up again and then an alarm goes off. I dont think it is actually an oil pressure problem maybe a sensor or loose connection. Any help to get started would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Is this happening as you drive around? Or will it happen as you sit in the driveway not moving?

I would check the wire to your oil pressure sending unit. Be sure the connection is clean and tight. Then follow the wire/harness as far as you can and inspect it for damage. Feel the underside of the harness with your hand our use a mirror to see the underside. Look for any cuts in the harness where sharp metal may be cutting into it and grounding out a wire.

And/or try replacing the oil pressure sending unit. Might want to just disconnect the wire first from the sender. See if you still have the problem.

I do believe your vehicle might be one of the many that GM is replacing the instrument clusters in due to those kinds of problems. That info has been discussed here on many occasions so you might be able to find it using the search function or perhaps someone that is more knowledgeable on the subject will speak up.
