Gmt-900 Add-a-leaf Question

I bought the Tuff Country Add-a-leaf kit for my 1500 a while ago and havent gotten around to installing yet.

Am I going to need longer u-bolts? I have about 3/4" of thread left. If I do, anyone have a guess as to where I can get some?

Will I need new spring clamps? If so, anyone have a link to some good ones?

Tuff Country should supply the needed hardware. I would start with them.

Already called them, werent of much help. The tech said that he "thinks" the u-bolt will be long enough.

I'm looking for people how have installed an extra leaf on their trucks. I'd like to "know" if I need a longer set of u-bolts before I get half-way through the installation.

Yeah, the leaf itself is no more than 1/2" thick. That should be fine since the middle single leaf spring bolt is what compresses the leaves together, right?

Not sure on the spring clamp issue though.

For what its worth... you're not supposed to re-use the axle U-Bolts (although I have before, but they really are 'one time use' so if you can get your hands on some new ones, there's no reason not to)

Most of my local auto-parts stores sell the spring clamps... pep boys, autozone, advance auto, etc. Worst case, do a quick google search and order a set

I reused my stock u-bolts but the kit came with a new centering pin so I used that...My kit came with spring clamps too but I couldn't figure out how they went on properly so I didn't bother at first, now someone threw the damn things out not long after I did it..

Id get spring clamps, mine keep wanting to slide out. Pisses me off. Im going to order new clamps soon.

Thanks, finally found some locally. Maybe one day I'll actually find some time to install the damned things.

i got the super springs for mine because you can adjust ride heighth and load capacity with very little notice to ride difference. I installed a set of add a leaves on a 97 Z71 I had and they had a hole in the center of the spring that matched a nipple on the block that retained the spring to prevent sliding and it came with clamps to prevent twisting sideways as well. They were Pro Comps, that was a while back though!
