Impressions After 2500km

Hey guys, I have just over 2600KM on my new Sierra and thought that I would share my thoughts. Feel free to comment.

 

1. The brakes suck. My '86 3/4T stopped better. Soft pedal at first, press again and it's hard.

 

2. The cruise control is a joke. I'll gain 15-20KM on a 6% downhill grade, or lose at least 10KM on the uphill. Funny thing is that it doesn't do it all the time.

 

3. The truck is averaging 15.5 MPG; I hope that will start to improve.

 

4. It has more balls from the 5.3 than I was expecting, sounds not too bad either.

 

5. The interior is well laid out, IMO, from the driver's seat. The CC back seat is huge.

 

6. The truck looks great with the GAT package.

 

All in all, I am quite happy with the purchase (even though the check engine light came on- error code PO335- yesterday. Dealer cleared the error as it would not repeat and said don't worry about it). The guys at the Langley Line-X store slopped some sticky paste on the box sides and tail gate that wouldn't come off. They tried to deny it was them (had only 200KM on the truck) but they did get it off and scratched and discolored the paint in the process. They paid to get it detailed, which took care of it for the most part.

+1 on the brakes not being so great...my '05 was way better. In my opinion, the cruise control issue, which I noticed right away too, is caused by the AFM going to V-4 mode and losing speed then kicking in and out again. I'm sooo glad I got mine disabled! Much better truck without it and mileage is unchanged.

Pretty happy with my brakes so far, much better than my 97 Sierra was!

Cruise control, I haven't noticed that trait yet but I will try it this wknd on my hilly drive to the trailer.

Power is sluggish off the start but seems to be improving (2,800kms) as is my gas milage, I travelled at a fairly decent clip on the way home from our trailer this past wknd and was quite surprised at how little gas I burned when I got home!

 

So far I love my truck, got a few things looked after at the dealer's last week and nothing new has popped up so hopefully it is just clear sailing from here on in?
