Xm Radio

Why does my XM radio cut out all the time? If its raining or foggy out, forget about it. If I'm driving in the woods, the trees make it loose signal, if I am driving in town, the buildings make it loose signal. Why am I paying for this service if it doesnt come in! I like the music, and all the sports channels, but there is nothing worse then jamming out to your favorite song, and right before your favorite part with the gutar solo, it cuts out.

Anyone?

You must have a bad antenna its under warranty have it fixed. In the very northern states such as the UP of Michigan you will get some cutout crossing sectors east & west.

if you are in Maine, you are basically screwed....

I have to agree....I live in NH and have alot of signal problems in the summer. The tree canopies are just to great up here.

In my old Jeep, I had a separate XM receiver with a small magnetic antenna that was stuck to the roof.I got much better reception with that antenna/radio than I do in my new truck. My parents were visiting this weekend, and we drove up to the White Mountains in my fathers Cadillac.....had the same problem.

Same thing w/ Sirius in CA...I think it's just something we need to deal with.

I usually hit the << button and give myself a 5 min buffer so I don't get dead air when I lose signal. Instead I get more of a "skip." :)

It depends on where the repeater is located. There's one in Pittsburgh and since I live north of town any hill that's north facing cuts the signal. It's worst in the summer and better in the winter; XM is available in Canada so living on the border shouldn't be an issue as much as the repeater location. A new antenna could probably fix it if not you're pretty much screwed.

The same dropouts happen here in the NY metro area too. Somewhat good idea with horrible execution, and I cant think of a more expensive and wasteful way to provide radio service.

I live in the UP and don't experience any problems except for obstructions like buildings (few really) and tree's (lots of big ones). Other than dat, not in over 5 yrs of listening to XM in 2 vehicles.

PS-I read somewhere that having tinting film on your windows can have a affect on XM radio.

PS-XM/Sirius is a waste of money IMO especially since its going up this month so the can pay more royalties to artists. So instead of getting a penny every time one their songs are played, they will be getting more. I only get XM on the CTS now and only subscribe for music at 9.99 month in 3 months chunks (car in storage winter).

Mine did the same thing when I lived in Pittsburgh. Didn't think it worth the extra cost, so I didn't re-new.

I like using my kids iPod better. :(

Here in Calif, I can get it even down a half level below ground of a 5 story parking structure as long as I'm close to the side of the structure. It finally cuts out a full level below ground. I signed up for a lifetime subscription for $400.
