2000 Gmc Jimmy Security Light On Solid, Won't Start...

Just to give some insight on who I am ........ I've been working on cars & motorcycles for most of my life. I'm 35 & self-taught jack of all trades, so to speak. I have attended school & have factory certification for motorcycle repair. I'm in the process of getting a small repair shop up & running now that the job market has tanked.

 

Now to my problem....

 

2000 GMC Jimmy, wife's winter vehicle. There is a problem with the windshield wipers that required me to remove the plastic surrounding the steering column. I unplugged the multi-function switch in order to test. I plugged everything back in & re-assembled. Now I notice the interior light is off (not working), the remote locks (or any button on remote) do not work, & the security light is on solid, not blinking. The engine fires for a second, then immediately dies.

 

I disconnected the battery & recharged for about 1 hour, re-connected, tried to start & encountered the same thing. I tried leaving the ignition on for 11 minutes to try & re-program, but no dice.

 

Anyone have any ideas?

This is a problem with the theft deterrent system...

 

The way it works is...

 

Your key turns the ignition lock.

This produces a code in the passlock sensor.

The code is sent to the BCM.

If the code is ok, the BCM sends a signal to the VCM.

The VCM then enables the fuel injectors.

had same problem with my 2001 Sierra after working around steering column, check TBC fuse in fuse box under hood, this provides power for body control module, remote keyless entry and headlamps. my truck had the exact same syptoms and this fuse was blown.

My wife's Grand Am left her stranded one night....car wouldn't start. Didn't notice until we got the car towed home that the SECURITY light was on.

I turned the ignition on and left it there for over 20 mins. That reset it.

I noticed you mentioned 11mins.....I was told it had to be at least 20min. You could try again. Nothing to loose.

Thanks for all the replies. It ended up being the TBC fuse as Kaiden posted.

 

Now to fix the non-working high beams, coolant leak, wiper motor, & backwards-wired power window switch........
