Weird Noise...vibration And/or Rattle?

Ok, so this past winter I developed a weird vibration/rattle that I can't figure out for the life of me. It sounds like the noise is coming from just behind the glove box or in that general area.

At first, I noticed it when I'd put the truck in reverse and turned the wheel. Then I become more aware of it and listened to it...I'm kind of a freak about my stuff and I'm extremely meticulous about every lil detail, from sight to sound.

At any rate, I now seem to experience this noise when I'm cruising down the road at around 50 +/- mph in V4 mode. It only happens in V4 mode for some reason...yet it will occur in reverse also.

It has me completely stumped. It's not terribly annoying, but it almost sounds like a grinding noise (but it's def not grinding) when it does occur.

Is anyone else out there experiencing similar symptoms?

is it your oil dipstick rattling on the battery cable. I had a vibration at low rpms everyso often and I found out there is some TSB out about it being close so I ziptied them together and I don't have anymore rattle.

Or it could be your coolant resovior rattling or it could be your heat sheild by you exhaust that sheilds the transmission. Both of those have TSB out for them.

Hmm...didn't know about the TSB's, so I'll have to research those.

As far as the dipstick rattling...I'll look into that, but highly doubt that is the culprit.

It only occurs when theres just the *precise* amount of depression on the accelorator while in V4 mode...definitely doesn't sound like a "metalic" noise, such as one that would be emmitted by a heat shield...I'll have to check the coolant reservoir. Would be nice to shut this stupid thing up!

first thing I would do is ziptie the dipstick to the battery cable and drive it to see if that work if not then go to the next. I tried the other ones out first then did the ziptie one and it work.

It is very likely that the dipstick is vibrating against a cable (I forget which one, battery or ignition feed?). I had the exact same issue, and found the TSB. A quick wire tie to hold the cable away from the dipstick did the trick. The symptom of this, believe it or not, is a rattling sound in the glovebox area when the V4 kicks in around 45 to 50 mph.
