Rear Differential Cover Gasket

Ok, so I was looking online for the price of a gasket for the rear differential cover and noticed that they all say they are around $40. This is for an 07 Avalanche and 08 Silverado, both w/ the G80. I've seen on here where peole have said they are around $8 at the dealer. Are they really $40 from Autozone, Advance, etc?

$11 from our local dealer - for truck in sig with G80.

I paid like $4 at Napa for an 05 Suburban. The brand was Flex-Pro I believe. I also heard you can use O2 sensor safe silicone instead of the gasket. Don't know if I would do it, but just a thought.

When i got them they were about $10 from the dealer.

 

No way would I pay $40 for one... if that's the case, I'd spend $5 for a sheet of gasket material and cut my own out. Extra 10 minutes of work with an exacto knife is well worth $35 savings

It's most likely a typo. I bet they are no more than $ 4 at Auto Zone or discount. It is just a paper gasket.

I dont know. They showed the same price on Advance's website too. I think even on O'Reilly's as well. Maybe it's a rubber gasket that doesnt' have to be replaced or something. I went ahead and got one from the dealer for $9, so it's not a problem now. I just thought it was crazy how much they were.
