Any Way To Make Extra Income Using My Truck?

Recommended Posts

I work the standard 40hrs/week but would like to make some extra money to help pay down some bills, is there anyway to utilize my 2500HD pick up truck to help with that?

The reason I ask this is, I was driving home the other day and a driver of a dodge 1500 pickup was bulldogging due to a loaded pallet of sod in his bed, and I thought to myself, maybe I can offer services hauling/towing using my heavy duty truck to make an extra buck?

Has anyone here done something like that? If so what was it? or if anyone has an idea of a service that people would like, feel free to share.

If it's a crew cab, you could use it as a Pimpmobile. :D

Seriously though, if you "rent out" you and your rig for hauling and towing, you may have some liability issues

Yea there is a ton of stuff you can do. I know up here in Sask. there's a company called University Student with a Truck. They don't advertise very much and always seem busy. My brother worked for them for a while and they hauled anything from old junk out of an apartment to appliances home from the store. I would imagine you could be that guy....

Ha, pimp mobile :D Ya, the liability issues were a concern of mine, I would contact my insurance agent before proceeding with anything.

Thanks for the suggestion importkiller, maybe your brother told you or he didn't it, but did he think they were profitable? My whole goal is to make extra money, not spend profits on gas. I know you said they were busy, but do you have an idea of what they charged? Because if they did a lot of jobs, but didn't charge anything worthwhile, it may even be counterproductive to my situation.

What kind of truck did they run? pickup or Box truck? I would probably need to invest in a enclosed/open trailer for a gig like that.

Appreciate it.

Get a way car used in a bank robbery! :D

so far i like this ^ one the most... but on the serious note i haul cattle everyonce in a while for my local stock yards but you would need a stock trailer for that.

Only way you are going to make serious money with your truck is if you have a business that requires the need for a truck. Invest in a snow plow if you live in an area where you get snow in the winter, you'll make alot of money! But you're gonna need to register your truck commercially and get a general liablilty policy with snow plowing insurance. As far as hauling goes, if you had a tractor trailer then you would make great money.

I use my truck for my swimming pool cleaning business. It's a full-time gig all-year around hear in California, but many guys do it on a part time basis. IMO a HD is a little overkill unless it's a service body like mine (I keep tools and spare parts for pumps & heaters etc.. in there) anyway you could clean swimming pools or mow some lawns on the side.

i know of a guy up here northern alberta that does an off-road recovery service, he has a 2000 RCSB with 14 bolt full floater rear end in it, straight axle conversion front end, 12 inch lift, what looked to be 42 boggers and a 6 litre under the hood mated with a NV3500 5 speed. its got a 12k lbs ramsey winch in the front with a HUGE spool, huge overkill push bumper with a million lights on it. 8k lbs winch in the box, with straps, chains, and what looked to be a mile of 5/16's cable in there too. im sure their was way more done to the truck, thats just all i got out of him while talkin. i should have taken a picture of his truck, was a sight to see thats for sure. i seen him at the gas station was chattin with him while fillin up, said him and his roomate do it. they work opposite shifts so one of them is always home. said minimum charge was 300 bucks, but said he has charged up to 2500 bucks to get people out!!!!!! then told me last summer they made about 35000 cash on the side doin it from early spring to late fall. shut er down in the winter, said he doesnt like doin it in the winter. too cold ahahah. but thats alot of extra beer money especially if your already workin!! anyways the best part of my story, made me laugh anyways. its what caught my eye. on the back window of the truck their was a huge sticker across the window sayin "off road recovery" with a phone number then underneath it said " IF YOU GET STUCK, DONT SAY F**K, JUST CALL MY TRUCK!!!" haahaha god i was laughing when i seen that...lol. :D

Appreciate it Pool Runner, my truck is the work truck model, reg cab, extended bed, already carrying tools from my 40/hr/week, thankfully all of it fits in a bed toolbox

ChevyBoy, I like that idea, but I live in a fairly well developed area in Florida, I have only had the chance to pull 3 people out of the mud, I don't know how profitable it would be since people getting stuck doesn't happen much in these parts.

Did he hang around mud bogs/forests, what exactly was his target market.?

his target market my guess is guys like myself who head out into the bush for a week/end, drink excessive amounts of alcohol, driving our trucks down roads lookin for deer or a lake to fish. thinkin ur truck will go anywhere but they dont. around where i live we are so far north the paved road literally stops 70kms north of town, then shes dirt road. and plenty of other roads all over the place, everybody owns 4x4's here. you have to for the winter or your screwed. its rare to see a 2 wheel drive truck around here. we live in the bush man. mud bogs all over the place just outside of town...im sure if gregrocks from GP sees this he will chime in.

Appreciate it man, I found a website uship.com where people list freight from motorcyles all the way up to boats that need to be trailered to storage, I think I am going to go that route, buy a general heavy duty trailer, and just work. Now all I have to do is get insurance, DOT certs and all those goodies hammered out.
