Wierdo Might Get A New Truck!

Well today, i was driving by the local stealership and happened to notice a truck. Had no price on it and i couldn't stick around long so i drove home. I then proceeded to call the place about it. Ladies and gentlemen, i present to you, a truck i'm looking to buy.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended cab 3 door Z71.

5.3L V8

Runs absolutely perfect. As in, doesn't miss a beat, doesn't emit any odors or colors. No exhaust leak at all. Nice body, not a scratch, after market decal running all the way down both sides. Lighted running boards. From the outside you'd think it was brand spankin' new.

Inside: cloth interior, everything works, nothing ghetto rigged. ABS light and SES light on the dash.

The price: $2600

Now i'm guessing you wanna know what's wrong with it? Well, nothing. It's just got 281,000 miles on it. For that price, it's a steal in my book.

Opinions? I'm test driving it soon.

Also - not compleltely sure what engine, the 5.3 is my guess. Does the fact that it's an LS somehow determine the engine? I don't mind if it's a 4.8. 4.8 should equal my blazer for mileage.

Thats a lot of miles, even for a vortec, just remember you may be sticking a lot more then the sticker price into it after a few thousand miles of driving it.

I agree with you, if its well taken care of it should be fine, I've almost got 200,000 on my 94 silvy(non vortec) but sooner or later, probably sooner, you will need to stick some coin into it. But as long as you know what your getting into, then all the better!

That's shit ton of miles, son! And make sure that tranny pulls like a mofo, that's the thing to go first. It's probably had one put in it already. Look and smell the fluid in the tranny, too.

x2... thats a good price but theres gotta be SOMETHING worn down to nothing.... set aside maybe another grand for repairs... personally id remove the decal

Yeah tranny's my biggest concern. I'll be giving the truck a thorough lookover first. I do all my own work. No doubt it'll need some repairs but if this truck made it this far, it must've been maintained damn well. At that price i can afford some repairs..

Our old 95 silvy 350 is pushing 600k..guy still drives it daily. He drives down to arizona (from mn) every week for work...truck's never let him down.

I've been down that road before so here's what I would be thinking about before purchasing.

Transmission - if the dealer can't prove a replacement/rebuild then I think you may need to set some money aside for that in the future.

Transfer case pump housing wear issue.

Bearings - front hubs, rear axle, pinion and associated seals.

Upper and lower ball joints.

Cooling system - heater core, hoses, radiator.

Good luck.

I agree, the decal makes it look like a certain type, wink wink, of person owned it.

hahahah yeah thats what i was thinking..

well with those miles i highly doubt thats the orig tranny or its rebuilt or something. you gotta test drive it and see how it performs.

Id leave the decal on I like it. Makes the truck different from all the other ones out there like it.

Doesn't seem overpriced to me...it has almost 300K on it...

I'll echo the concerns about the trans...but also the transfer case.

Other than that...it looks like a very solid truck.
