Need Some Help Removing Door Handle Cable

Trying to remove the door panel completely so I can install my chrome door handles and I cannot seem to get this door cable to unlatch. It says to pull up to release tension then to slide out but that doesn't seem to work. Spent an hour the other day trying to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the response I'll have to try again later. My gfs dad had trouble with it also, we realized it was like a bike brake. Il post again whether or not I'm successful

Still can't seem to figure out how to get that cable to unlatch so I can completly remove the door panel so its easier to do the door handles. Anyone else have any input? Thanks

NBS or 07 classic

I changed all mine over to escalade handles and didn't run into this problem. sorry I can't help if it's an 07. good luck

07 NBS, its like a bike brake cable but the damn thing just wont come off lol

When I did mine, all I did was leave the cable attached and insert the bottom tabs of the panel in the slots in the door. I let it hang while I swapped the handles. It worked like a champ. Only took about 10 minutes per side. No harm to the cable.

Just let it hang. It's not going to hurt anything. I've had my door panels off half a dozen times and have had zero problems. It's a steel cable, it's not going anywhere.

Thats what I intended to do but for the back doors there is no way for me to squeeze my hands in and unscrew the bolts so I don't accidently drop them in the door panel. I guess I could just try again with it hanging but it'd be easier with it off.

I went at it from undernieth with a pair of needle nose. There is warnings out there about letting it hang and bending the cable. I grabbed on the cable and pushed it up and the ball will slide out to the side.

While I haven't seen the warnings directly, I would agreethat bending the cable would be bad. That said, as long as one pays attention, letting the door panel hang works just fine. I speak from experience.

Where are these warnings?

Here is a good picture of it. When I changed mine I looked around for instructions and found a place that sold mirrors and a post on another forum . They both talked about how you can end up bending the cable if it is left attached so I unhooked mine when I changed my door handles.I looked and could not find the post. In the picture you will see the tabs squeeze them both and pull back and it will release.

Ditto what he said, getting the cable loose is easy, getting the cable sheath and sassociated clip holding the sheath in place is the hard part. Compress the tabs on the back side that you can't see from the top and push the sheath out. Then unhook the steel cable part.

Thanks for the help everyone. Finally got the damn thing off! Now to go install my door handles .
