No Oil Pressure

For some reason I have no oil pressure after changing the oil, filter and oil cooling line assembly on my 2000 Silverado 6.0L eng. I had the truck in my garage to change out the water pump and noticed the leaking oil cooling lines. So I changed out the oil cooling line assembly while I had the fan shroud out. After putting everything back together I started it up, looked for leaks and then I noticed the nice little message "Low Oil Pressure" and the oil pressure gauge read 0 psi. I checked the oil level and it was almost full. So I added a little oil and started it again, no change still 0 psi. I don't think its the oil pressure sending unit because I can hear the lifters tapping loudly. I don't dare drive it to the dealer for fear of locking up the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it need to sit and idle a minute to bleed the oil cooler lines?

Maybe, but I took it for a short drive down the street & back, I had it running about 4 to 5 min before I noticed the oil pressure gauge reading 0 psig. That should have been enough time to circulate oil throughout the system and build pressure. I'm afraid the oil pump went out, but I'm hoping for other less involved solutions.

It ran 4 or 5 miles without oil pressure. You sure it's not just a sender bad, can you tell a difference in how it runs?

No, it ran for 4 or 5 minutes then I noticed the low oil pressure message and the oil pressure gauge read 0 psig. I can hear the lifters knocking loudly.

i'll bust in and say you messed it up some how,it is very straight forward repair and the oil pump did NOT go for shit ,take it apart again and look very close,

makes no sense.

please let us know WTF happened!!

i have had a similar issue.

had a shop put new cooler lines in on my 2000 silverado with 6.0l, oil pressure before dropping off the truck was 40psi at idle, and at 3000 rpm was about 50-60 psi

after getting the truck back, oil pressure at idle is 20psi, and at 3000 rpm is around 30-40 psi.

have no clue what happened. checked for leaks, nothing. changed oil filter, no change.

still within factory specs though....

Did you let the engine sit a long time after draining the oil?

Letting it drain for an extended period of time can cause the oil pump to loose its prime and result in an air lock. Its rare but has been known to occur in some engines and could possibly have occurred in this case. I haven't the slightest idea how you would correct this but I would let it sit for a day to see if the air bleeds.

I wonder if he found the problem? I was thinking maybe one of the cooler lines had a restriction in it possibly or is there a check valve that is stuck. Oil not going to the cooler when the temp is low outside but will when it heats up maybe?
