  1. Took my 79yr old neighbor for a heart valve replacement. It's absolutely amazing what can be done these days, and how common and less invasive it's become.

  2. When I first retired and started traveling east to visit my father in law. (Like going to Church) I promised my wife I would spend more time with her family, especially her father after retirement. It was a fun 11 years. Early retirement was the only reason that was possible. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. Anyway I started getting serious with my diet too. Now taking blood pressure meds does affect low blood sugar. You just can’t take all the little diet tricks with you to help lose weight traveling 3 days. You definitely can’t drive straight through like in your youth. I found out I can’t do hungry. Hangry like a beast from hell over comes me. I get weak and real shaky. That is why I always stayed overweight. I finally learned how to manage all that. My wife thought it was me being tired from driving. It was low blood sugar. Last year I went next level and finally lost additional weight. It’s really tough when you can’t do hunger without extreme misery. The first trip was a miserable experience. At the same time working on the teeth. Learning to slow down physically was a job too. Strange as it sounds. My work made me pretty strong. That can really work against you in your wind down years. Because you can doesn’t mean you should. My first week of retirement almost put me in a retirement home. I was down hurt everywhere. I wised up, healed up. I can still do everything, just a little more carefully. Buy stuff that makes life easier. Even hire stuff out. I checked. It’s way cheaper than paying those fees in a retirement or assisted living facility.

  3. Been chasing a very pronounced dash rattle directly behind the cluster for months. Almost Removed the entire dash and no luck. The interweb didn’t help much, never seen this before. just earlier I removed the windshield wipers and plastic cover and found a really loose bolt. Under the wiper motor. Not tight at all. Had to use the impact because it kept spinning I assume there’s a nut on the other side. Now it’s tight. My cabin is now RATTLE FREE. 2019 CC z71 58k miles.

  4. Its not a lot if I recall and I know for a fact that the cover screws can be broken off if your attaching one that has a bracket, ask me how I know ? My guess from memory is something like 25 inch pounds

  5. I will probably do the doors next and then the rockers, break things up a little. I think I am going to get a new applicator also since my original one is a cheapy. The rear bed arches also take some time. I pull the plugs in the interior bed and lay it on thick in there. I got 2 gallons of Blaster surface shield on clearance at Advance back during the winter. I am anxious to tap in to them and try our the Blaster flavor.

  6. Ya I saw that so I bought some but looks like I may be returning it unless I use it in the gap between the lower spoiler and rear window. I laid a nice bead between the cab and upper spoiler then wrapped it around the sides of the spoiler as a just in case. Can't see it unless you're looking for it. Ended up buying the permanent 81730 to fill it. The test will be Monday so guess I'll find out how well I did lol. We're in a level 4 for severe weather so there's a chance I may end up with a new truck anyway lol. Definitely love this truck and just got it where I want it so it would be a shame to have to get rid of it.

  7. Prolly don`t even need to do 0w40. One can get his HTHS number up from a 2.7 to a 3..2 to 3.5 with a 5w30 or 10w30. Gotta keep parts separated, as Grumpy says. Me too. I`ve been running 5w30 in my `25 5.3 since 600 miles. No problems. But, it`s not a 420hp 460tq engine. High performance needs higher film strength. Period.

  8. So now I need to start buying Dexos R 0w40 oil? A quick Google search says they only Mobile 1 makes this. I can’t wait to spend twice as much on oil every time I change my oil.

  9. Two things can be true. No doubt some manufacturing defects occurred. But nobody should believe thicker oil will fix that! I bet GM views the 0w40 as a good hedge against future UNRELATED warranty claims in currently healthy motors. The 0w20 served its purpose shoving these trucks under the CAFE limbo bar. The only thing it costs them to change spec after that is a 10 cent oil cap. Cheap insurance?

  10. LATE update. I purchased a new motor in march of 23 and installed it a wee over a week ago. I was under the impression the entire headliner had to come down. Just the overhead console and mount for it. Took me longer getting that off than it did changing the motor. 80°+ weather and it’s still working flawlessly!!!

  15. b3 d9ne? Medical procedures/hospital visits have changed considerably in our lifetime. My mother-in-law and her mum were nurses and caregivers. They would often tell us about the improvements in health care techniques during their careers. I am on a waitlist for two surgeries which I am looking forward to having done. If this was the 40's or 50's, I'd be scared!

  16. Then explain why it’s just the 2021-2024 6.2’s and not the entire engine line up running 0w-20. Also include other manufacturers running 0w-20 and now 0w-16 and even 0w-8? Your logic states these all will self destruct. The salvage yards should be full of trashed engine vehicles. We don’t know what type of inspection is being performed. The only inspection I feel that is going to find the issue is a tear down and that’s not going to happen.

  17. Hmmm....a little bittersweet for me as I have a 2020 with the 6.2L which surprisingly is not on the recall list. I would have thought they go back to 2019. I have a scheduled oil change tomorrow at my GM dealer so I'll ask if I should be concerned with this recall. I suspect anyone with a 6.2 who is not involved in this recall will want to keep tabs on this development.

  19. The defect is the 0W20 oil Name it...the exact metallurgical ISSUE. Can't be done. Again, attempting to 'say a thing true'. . PROOF! and failing motors is proof only that they are failing. REASON...LOGIC.... Not the OEM's first rodeo on oil related failures. Anyone remember taking all the Phosphorus/sulphur out of flat tappet cammed motors just before roller cams became standard fair? And the hideous number of lifter/lobe failures? NOT metallurgical. Motors are not moron proof.

  21. Responded to a "one hit wonder"...... Kind of like you guys (bots) are when responding with "your concerned" replies that never go anywhere or resolve issues. Or update with resolutions to customer you're so concerned about. Now I see the bot responded to the one hit wonder again. This is the same stuff that is on 5th Gen Ram. Ford dropped their social media group on the F150 forums this year. Same thing.... Nothing comes of it.

  22. You are correct, Car Play and Android Auto were introduced in 2016. Not wireless, but only through a connected USB. You don't have to replace the head unit. See here (it ain't cheap but it beats looking at the phone while driving): https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/product/car-play-upgrade-retrofit-kit/ Also, this: https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/product/2016-android-auto-car-play-upgrade-retrofit/

  23. This write-up is for a 2017 Chevy 2500hd 6.0l Flex Fuel. I decided to install the Whipple Supercharger system on my truck. The Supercharger Kit comes with very quality parts that are precision made. Now, the install manual needs some definite editing due to missed steps and steps that can be performed ahead of time to save interruptions in the process. I am editing the instruction manual to include time saving steps and will post it when completed. The kit for my truck took 2 days which is not out of the question if your being careful. The kit includes a HP Tuners MPVI-2, supercharger w/ intercooler, intake manifold, fuel rails, heat exchanger, reservoir tank w/electric pump, new belt, tensioner with idler pulleys, MAF sensor to throttle body hoses, new 160-degree thermostat, and all the hoses and electrical wiring needed. It is a little overwhelming when I first laid it all out, but once underway (with so so instructions), everything seems to just fall into place. Granted, I have been a mechanic for over 40 years, but a person with less time can surely do this themselves with patients. This kit uses the stock airbox set-up with a high flow filter. Other than that, most everything is new install. The kit uses the stock fuel pump and injectors. These items on the flex fuel are more than sufficient in supplying fuel to the engine. The very first thing I did was read the stock files in the ECM with the HP Tuner program, then I sent the log file to Whipple via email and within 1-2 days, I received my new tune for the truck for after the supercharger install. The next steps were to drain the coolant, and begin to remove components such as: stock intake manifold, alternator, fuel rails, stock belt tensioner and idler pulley, plus more. There were a few hiccups that occurred during the install. The kit included an older wiring harness that I had to adapt to my truck, (this truck is my daily driver, and I couldn’t wait for the correct harness), older fuse tap, defective MAP sensor (GM part, which is installed before the intake manifold due to the location on the back of the engine), and the intake bulge pipe did not fit correctly. Other than these shortcomings, the install was not very difficult. The install of the heat exchanger and reservoir tank w/ circulation pump were a little confusing and time consuming, but with proper instructions, it should go easy. Once everything was installed, I programed the truck for the new tune. I have been having issues with the tune. After speaking with a professional tuner, I discovered the computer for the 2500/3500hd 6.0L is only used in these trucks. The tuner explained that tuning these trucks are a PITA. I have an appointment on Friday to have mine dyno tuned. The shop that I am using does quite a bit of work with Whipple and actually makes a good number of their programs. After that long-winded explanation, I do have to say, the low-end running issue I am having trouble with gets ironed out on Friday, but the Whipple Supercharger is an amazing product and makes amazing power. I will know more of exactly how much power it is making on Friday. I can say that 20 mph to 110 mph happens before you know it, and with a wide-open throttle, you will be forced into your seat. I will update and answer any questions.

  24. My AT4 has black A pillar panels. Here are the crew cab part numbers: 84588380 left 84588377 right https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2020/gmc/sierra-1500/at4-trim/6-2l-v8-gas-engine/body-cat/interior-trim-cab-scat The extended cab shows different part numbers, but they are all on the linked page.

  25. Thank you. I wasn't scared about others experiences with the E78 ECM, and like you, I was going to try. Still will. Hearing your success makes me almost jealous, definitely envious! We have no humidity down here in the SouthWest so I obviously need a SouthWest tune for my area and high heat for the summer months. I will share anything I learn along the way. Any ECM can be tuned, just knowing how the systems work and any limitations. I have some minor experience with GM LS1 tuning with EFI Live and Moates RoadRunner realtime. Enough to get me started with this HPTuners and the Whipple. I have enough mechanical experience to get the Whipple installed. Definitely not at your level 40yrs mechanic but my father was a 50yr mechanic and is now in forced retirement (health issues). I'm sure I will make a comical mistake along the way, but that is going to be half the fun. I think I am going to drive the truck stock and make sure it is not a warranty headache. I'll likely take it on a bunch of trips this summer with the wife (we have no children yet) and put the Whipple on around October/November this year. I'm not installing a Whipple in 110 degree heat no thanks to that for sure. I had to order my truck to get a 6.0L. They have 2 work truck gassers in stock locally and five at Earnhardt Chevy in AZ. Do you know how many dealers told me to buy a Diesel? But the Diesel has this great longevity they said. The Diesels never break down they say. The Diesels have 910 torque they say. The Diesels get better fuel mileage they say. The Diesels can tow more they say (without specifying it takes a 3500 DRW to do so). The truck I purchased actually has 500 less GVWR capacity as the same truck in Diesel (9500 vs 10000) BUT don't forget my truck has a +250 lb payload capacity in the bed which I use a LOT more. That is because the Diesel engine weighs a bunch more than the gas engine. Towing Capacity is as follows: Engine Max Towing Max GVWR Vortec 6.0L V8 14,500 pounds 9,500 pounds Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 15,400 pounds 10,000 pounds So without the dual rear wheel the Diesel can only tow 900 more pounds has a Max GVWR of 500 more lbs. Whoopdie doo. I can put 250 lbs more in my bed still. The dealer also doesn't specify how to maintain a Diesel or the costs associated with it. The price of Diesel is higher. It rattles at idle like a sonuva and my wife HATES the rattle. The other day I saw a Duramax same truck as mine turn the corner while I waited at the light. I told the wife see its clean as it left down the road. It got maybe 500 feet and belched a blue puff. Thing looked pretty dang new I dunno if I was an LP5 engine or not but the wife yucked and said yeah Clean Diesel. Quiet too at idle. This is why we are naming the truck ITS_CLN . It has the cleanest Diesel engine money can buy. $10,000 less and its a gasser.

  26. Eric, Congratulations on the new truck. I am so very lucky to have a performance tuner over here that dialed my engine in after the Whipple install. You will read (if you haven't already) about people bad mouthing the E78 ECM. It is all about knowing HOW to tune it. My tuner actually calibrates a lot of Whipple's programs for them, so when speaking with them at the time of purchase, mention my guys name. I will PM you his info when you are ready. Knowing how systems on your truck work is very important. I do a lot of research before making choices and then confirming them with experts.

  30. Looked on My Chevrolet app and my 2021 Silverado Custom Trail Boss with the 6.2 shows this recall outstanding on it. Wonder how long before I get a letter from GM or call from the dealer to bring it in. I'm at about 31,600 miles with no issues. I changed the oil at about 1000 miles and have changed it at 6K miles since. I've put some strontium magnets on the bottom of the oil filter(Purolator Pure One or Boss) and cut the last two open after I bought the proper tool and I was surprised at the amount of metal paste on the bottom of the can where the magnets were stuck to. This was just the last two most recent oil changes. Wonder how bad it was on the first couple changes. I also get some pretty nasty looking gunk in the JLT catch can. Can't imagine that helps things any going back into the motor.
