Ok, I'm going to ask this in a serious sense...just how much protection is one losing to an (whatever the GM) 85w versus the mileage loss in a (synthetic) 90w? Seems like the difference in mileage would be really hard see under normal conditions? I guess it's a moot point when cars share the differential and transmission and use ATF. Yeah, my dad's truck was a Dodge with an ecoat frame...different animal. Mine is a wax coat...and the shriveling happened within a short period of being sprayed with Fluid Film. I've sprayed more than one car with Fluid Film, have you? Again, it did not work for us...it's your money, if it makes you feel good spending that kind of $$, good for you. I can spray my truck for next to nothing in an hour for the same effect. Have a nice day. I can't add anything more than I have...so I'm done with this thread. While this is a Dodge explanation for the milky fluid, it might also explain the GM. Dodge had a batch of AAM differentials that had milky fluid in them from new, a batch of guys complained, and it turned out that the marking compound used to set the gear lash harmlessly contaminated the fluid giving it the milky appearance. Just one possibility. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Nope, had it sprayed on a virgin truck, it washed off, so I went back to my method...no reason to spray it over something that works. I gave it the college try...on a brand new, clean, truck... The nearest dealer (at that time) is in Maryland, over two hours away; it wasn't worth going back to complain or have it "touched up" (read: completely resprayed) every year. Shake or Vibration Issues

That's reminiscent of frame beaming diagnostics the 2500s suffer from...add weight, see if it's still there. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Shake or Vibration Issues

The front driveshaft was the cause of vibrations in the Dodge 2500s, and that was also made by AAM...I wouldn't dismiss it. For the radio reception, has anyone considered the coax size? It's a 1/8" diameter, old stuff was nearly 3/8"...can't imagine that doesn't cause some signal loss. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk -

AAM driveshafts are notorious for being poor quailty. The 3rd gen Dodge had vibration issues caused by the front driveshaft...my local driveshaft shop told me the spline was worn out on the front driveshaft, with 500 miles on it. The flanges on some of the rear differentials were drilled wrong and that caused an out of round issue. I replaced the front shaft with a new AAM shaft that was no better. I also replaced every ujoint by 75k miles because everyone had a pin sizing and that caused squeaks and vibrations. Some of the 3rd gen Dodges had vibrations, and a good many of them were never fixed...and threads were on the Dodge forums just like this one. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Fluid film will wash off, not sure if it's the salt used by DOT or what, but I've used the thin version (sprayed myself) and the commercial version (sprayed by a dealer), both trucks (and the car) had dry frames/undercarriages by the spring where ever they encountered road spray. My dad's truck looked like we had sprayed nothing at all and was just as rusted as if we hadn't sprayed it at all. This truck within a week of being sprayed lost probably 25% of the wax coating, large areas shriveled up, then flaked off. Could it be the original application of the wax coating was flawed? I don't know. All I do know is that after spraying with Fluid Film, the coating on MY frame shriveled and peeled. By spring, the fluid film was almost nonexistent. While I use used gear/trans/PS fluid, I don't use used motor oil. Again, my experience. Not saying it doesn't work for most, just didn't work for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

I haven't sprayed mine with oil in two years...2012, 90k miles, Pennsylvania rust belt...that pict is from today. If you want them to last, take matters into your own hands. Cost me less than $20 for the sprayer, I use drain oil from the trans, power steering, and differentials. There are also guys that will oil undercoat locally for about $50. I tried fluid film, it washed off in a lot of spots within one winter. The wax coat shriveled up and peeled off in a lot of spots after the fluid film was sprayed. I have owned vehicles that were Ziebart coated, that worked ok, but eventually that caused rust since they only coat certain parts with wax, the rest is a traditional undercoat that traps water. I've used QuakerCoat by Quakerstate, it did alright but is pretty thick and I don't even know if it's produced anymore. The only thing I have found that works for me is oil undercoating. Once it traps some dirt/dust, it builds a body that remains wet...that becomes your undercoating. It's not pretty, it's not clear, and it's obviously not for everyone...I don't have this truck to show, I have it to work. Again, just my experience. YMMV. Not sure where you live, but frame rot and rust through is a real issue in the snow/rust belts. I've seen truck buckle in half behind the cab from frame rot... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Dual Battery not charging
sdeeter19555 replied to M60A3MG's topic in 1999-2013 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I would replace, or at least test, that relay...you should get 14v at at least one of the trigger terminals on the solenoid from the relay. That solenoid is likely externally grounded, meaning one of the small terminals is positive and the other is a ground. At least one should have 14v to operate. Also check your grounds... With all the coolers and whatnot behind the bumper, and the fact that you really need at least a 10k winch for a 2500, not really much in the way of options, at least four years ago. I didn't want a full bumper replacement, so that limited me to cradles. The one thing with the Westin mount I will note, if you add their tow loops (an option for their cradle); they may interfere with your winch of choice. I had to modify the passenger side one to clear the Warn VR12000 I chose... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Nah, the Westin winch cradle is tough, mounted to the frame in multiple points...the most that might happen is the control box get crunched from a deer impact. I wasn't impressed with the limited guard options, so I built one to withstand a decent impact... Getting the front dinged slightly isn't as much of a concern as getting home afterwards is to me... One set of tests I read indicated that, while the 20Ws meet Dexos1 specification, the Dexos1 30Ws may have better protection attributes. I'm not one to change viscosities arbitrarily for the reasons mentioned previously, but in this case they are probably close enough... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

I've tracked mine since day one, it varies between 6000 and 7500 miles depending on how hard the truck is used. Since these trucks monitor many parameter (e.g., oil pressure, oil temp, rpm, load, engine temp, etc.), it must take those into account in some aspects to determine roughly how hard the oil is abused. Low temperature thermostat?
sdeeter19555 replied to Z71DarkDragon16's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Umm, I've ran 160 and 180 stats (when that was all "the rage"), and depending on the part of the country you live, you may not get any appreciable heat in the cab...been there, done that, and have the frosty toes to show for it. Not saying whether it does anything for performance, just that in colder climates you may not have cab heat. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Low temperature thermostat?
sdeeter19555 replied to Z71DarkDragon16's topic in Modifications & Accessories
160 will not throw heat once it gets below 40 degrees. From what I remember, it was a trick back in the day but took a chip or programming to get any benefits. Otherwise, it's not good for the engine, too cold is not good. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk -

Shake or Vibration Issues
sdeeter19555 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
From what I understand the road force units cause more issues than they cure...they are complicated, require a specialized "tech", and need frequent calibration and repair. I have had extremely bad luck with the road force balancers, I would NOT go looking for that service and would probably go somewhere else if it was offered to me. What sensor reads alcohol content?
sdeeter19555 replied to sdeeter19555's topic in 2000-2014 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
So it's the O2 sensor(s) that approximate the alcohol content? Maybe I have one getting lazy... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
What sensor reads alcohol content?
sdeeter19555 posted a topic in 2000-2014 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
On a flex-fuel vehicle, what sensor reads alcohol content. If this sensor starts acting sluggish or reading low, would this cause any issues? I have the ability to read alcohol content, and it used to read / fluctuate, now it seems dead and reads zero. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
