Start the truck and look at the voltmeter. If it is about 12 - 12.5, that is the battery voltage. The alternator is not putting out enough to carry the electrical load, especially if the AC is running. Bring the RPM up to 750 and observe again. If the voltage starts to climb toward 14 volts then the alternator is generating enough to carry the load and charge the battery. My experience by 1250-1500 RPM the alternator is at maximum output.

For similar mileage, consider the cost of diesel. I'm paying 1.69 now in Phoenix. Regular is 2.09, premium for my 6.2 is 2.49. My last trip to Colorado and back I paid the same price as regular once, otherwise always lower. I invest in oil, it's not going up, middle east is pumping harder again and demand isn't going up. I tow out west up to 11,000, a 6.6 gas motor isn't going to get it done. I'm about to order a 2021 3500 AT4 with a Duramax, for the additional payload. It will get a Banks Derringer for additional power.

When I bought our 2018 GMC we weren't told it was free for 5 years, only 6 months. I wouldn't change brands because OnStar wasn't free. Right now GM P/Us are taking the lead back from Ford.

For my GMC the first two free dealer oil changes were full synthetic. So I just went to Jiffy Lube and they used a commensurate full synthetic. I've been a vehicle owner for 45 years, used all different major brands since I was doing my own, and never suffered an oil related problem. There is too much brand envy.

And now the UAW is demanding a two week shutdown of the production lines because of the coronavirus. The hits just keep on coming.

I've shared on some other threads that I read at GM Authority that GM has ordered mandatory overtime at the Flint plant since February. That tells me that GM has a ton of orders and allocations already. Add to that GM Authority reported the 2021 Order Book will open in May. Maybe the convergence is forcing GMs hand to not accept orders without saying so. I've built my 3500HD online, and using a 2000 mile search there are over 3,000 trucks that somewhat matches, none exactly. Seems like a lot of trucks to me. Thank you for sharing, I thought about ordering a 2020, but I will until the 2021 Order Book opens.

We went from the Silverado 1500 NHT in my tagline to the 2018 All Terrain and have really enjoyed the GMC. Getting ready to order a 2020 AT4 3500HD long bed for the increased capacities. We are keeping the 1500 for around town, I still enjoy the kick in the pants I get from the 6.2L. P.S. I took the All Terrain to Jackson WY 5 weeks ago after I put Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs on it and the traction was amazing, even in 6 inches of snow. Hope the 2020 AT4 does likewise. Wish GMC had stayed with the DuraTracs.

twofish I just put the Duratracs on my All Terrain two weeks ago, the Michelins were crap in snow. I drove over snow on U.S. 191 (8,000 ft) between Moab, UT and Rock Springs, WY; followed by on snow packed US 191 to Jackson, WY. We had many days of snow in Jackson, then on snow packed roads headed to Salt Lake City. I experienced almost no slippage, and stopping power was amazing. I'm a fan of the Duratracs for life.

Looks great, wished I lived in snow country so I could have a plow like that unit. Well, I could anyways, but not a lot of snow in Phoenix. ?

So Silveradox2 isn't accurate any more, I just bought a 2018 GMC 2500HD ALL TERRAIN Duramax on Labor Day to get all the discounts. I wanted to get a 2018 Siverado 2500HD MIDNIGHT EDITION but they were all gone when I went to pull the trigger. The photo is a stock photo. I plan to change the wheels to black and put on Goodyear Duratracs after a long trip next week. That will be cheaper than buying the All Terrain X. And I didnt want the sport bar for trailering reasons. I also plan to install a Banks Derringer after the trip before I get our first fifth wheel. I'll post update photos as I dress this beast out. Thanks to redwngr and all the forum members whose posts have been a big help to getting the right truck for us.

I read on this thread or another on this forum about putting the shifter in M and leaving it for smoother transmission action. I have and I agree. I also like to manually shift to let that "Corvette" motor sing to me.

Thinking of trading the 2012 in for a like 2015 High Country edition for the direct injection, HP increase and I really like the new cab. Greatly respect the persons here for what they've done, would like your input. Point me to another thread if that would be appropriate. Thanks.

My wife is getting about 14.7+/- driving mostly freeway during her commute. When I drive it (call it my Corvette), probably get 10-12 cuz I manually shift alot.
