  1. I've had it frozen solid when temps dip down below zero.
  2. Even when stock, my truck ran like shit on 87. Stumbling idle, subpar fuel economy, pinging in the summer when I used my AC. My lawnmower can barely run on 87, why would I fill my truck up with the stuff? Most modern engines are designed and tuned to maximize performance based on the fuel it's running on. It's just that on 87 that means mediocre performance.
  3. Been meaning to get this uploaded.
  4. I wedged the rubber piece in a radiused inset behind the pedal bracket. It takes up the flexing movement of the bracket with only a small piece of rubbber. I forgot it was there for well over a year.
  5. I cut a 2"x2" piece of white rubber material that was approximately 1/4" thick. http://intexrubber.com/images/fda_rubber_white_R.jpg Pulled on the pedal bracket and wedged the rubber piece as far as I could. I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow.
  6. The frame was boxed to match the new F150 frame. Then the torsion bar front suspension was dropped for the coilover setup. In 2014 they made the 9.5" axle standard on the V8 models (a BIG plus imo). The truck might be heavier but I'm happy with the balance of fuel economy, weight, and capability. As much as I like the gmt800's I could never go back.
  7. The Blackbear datalogging process is actually extremely simple. The key is to log onto Blackbear's website and read through the documentation. Seems like some guys skim the FAQ too quickly.
  8. A chunk of rubber works great. Make it big enough that the bracket pushes again the rubber and it won't move. Also no risk of it making noise as it vibrates like metal might. I forgot all about the pedal flex since I put the rubber piece in.
  9. The new trucks are built a bit heavier too though. The difference in frames alone is a big change. There was a definite increase in curb weight going from the gmt800 to the gmt900 and now the gmtk2xx platforms.
  10. The axles are from AAM in Mexico.
  11. With TM dialed back, I found that during the summer my average transmission temps dropped went from 200-205F to 190F. Not massive but whatever wear there might be from reducing TM you'll gain back in other ways like a cooler (happier) trans.
  12. I have a Ft. Wayne DC truck. It's been a solid truck for 2 1/2 years. I've surprised a few guys that thought all of GM's pickups are made in Mexico these days.
  13. 285/70R17 is a common (nearly) 33" tire for 17" wheels. A 285/75R17 is an uncommon size. Hence he's asking what the overall diameter is in inches. Are you sure you haven't mistakened a 285/70r17 with a 285/75r17?
  14. Rubberized coating isn't a 100% hermetic seal there will always be areas with porosity or poor adhesion to the steel that serve as pathways for water, salt and oxygen to travel.Google is your friend. Toyota and Jeep owners have been struggling with rust for decades and have tried everything. New owners will try rubberized undercoattong and when they peel it back to see how it's working, they're horrified by how much rust is underneath. It'd be a nice simple option if it did work but it doesn't.
  15. Rubberized coating is the worst option if the frame has any rust already. It'll look alright on the surface but you're just trapping the moisture, road salt, etc. underneath the surface. I've seen it accelerate corrosion when poorly applied.
  16. I was on the fence on whether or not to put fender fares on but yours look really good. Did you have them painted somewhere to match or can you order them like that?
  17. That would be the way to go. Unfortunately I already shelled out $160 for the original EE can. I'm not dropping an additional $315 for a E2-X. It'd be easy money for EE to offer a larger capacity lower half for those of us with the original. Hopefully they consider offering something on their website soo. Otherwise I'll probably modify my existing can. It wouldn't be too hard to drill and tap the bottom so it can drain to some sort of reservoir.
  18. Yeah I really wish Elite offered a larger size of the lower half as an upgrade for us Northerners. The little can is just too small. It's not exactly a joy to try to un-thread the can when it's below zero. Hey Elite Engineering, you reading this?
  19. You ought to look into buying some Krown to spray over rust spots.
  20. You pressure washed the frame? Yeah bad idea. With or without the FF, the wax is going to get blasted off. To anyone that uses FF over the factory wax, you don't need to pressure wash the frame off with it applied. I rinse the frame once a winter on average using a low pressure spray nozzle.
  21. I have it and generally recommend it. It's a pretty deep almost 'burble-y' note during warm idle. No highway drone when V4 is disabled. When you hammer the throtttle it screams pretty good. Just make sure you buy a coyple band clamps to take the place of the cheap u-bolt clamps that come with it.
  22. Hopefully the dealers get fed up with these tsb bandaids and make enough noise that GM ditches the shitty wax coating.
  23. Skip the rubberized coating and go with Krown. Since the frame has lost some of the wax and started to rust it'll be more effective. The rubberized coatings are not effective if applied over rust and it's nearly impossible to effectively rubberize the inside of the boxed frame Krown is vastly easier to apply to the inside of the frame and body panels.
  24. Yeah you gotta stay on top of the undercoating if you don't want rust. Read the multiple threads on here that discuss the problems and solutions to it. I drive my truck through salt all winter and washed the frame off maybe twice all that time. Zero rust other than a couple spots hidden by the spare. You can't rely on the factory wax. It's basically good enough to keep the frame from rusting before you get it home from the dealer.
  25. Haha UPS did the same thing to my wheels! The lips had flat spots 3 or 4" long. The impact was so hard it pinched right through two thick layers cardboard and the foam protector. I swear they threw them right off the back of the truck. For anyone that orders wheels, look at them close. Find a flat surface and roll each one to make sure they aren't out-of-round.
