  1. My '06 Silverado and '09 Impala are both built in Canada. No starter problem with either one to date. Nothing wrong yet with the starter on my 2013 Sonic built in the US either.
  2. This is true for any make or model.
  3. File a normal lemon claim.
  4. Time to zero in on the driveshaft and the torque converter.
  5. Maybe it is a good thing. Two months ago I was in Maryland and it rained hard most of the time. I could not believe how many drivers did not turn their lights on in heavy rain. Drivers are more disciplined about this here in Florida.
  6. The old deuce and a half Army trucks had air operated wiper motors and there was also a manual lever on each wiper motor, so in case of failure, you could operate the wipers manually. Of course, these trucks also had flip out windshield windows and a folding outer windshield frame, which folded flat onto the hood, much like on a Jeep Wrangler.
  7. This is very common on these trucks. Mine truck has it too. I went as far as ordering a new differential cover and to my surprise, it was bare metal, not even primed, and had rust spots on it already! Plus it had an extra fill plug and no drain plug. I returned it becuase i would have had to sand and repaitn the new cover, so I just might repaint my old one. The best solution for the differential cover rust is to wire brush the cover with drill powered wire brush on the truck, then prime with black primer and give it several coats of black enamel from a spray can.
  8. I remember that when I had my truck on a lift, frame coating in contact areas with lift rubber pads came off and stuck to the pads. I just recoated the bare spots with rubberized undercoating. If the spots are small and there is rust present, you can just brush it with wire brush and spray on some undercoating.
  9. Does GM use horsehairs for seat padding? Mercedes Benz used it for decades (seriously). And when I read all these posts, I recall removing the driver's seat from my old 1983 Mercedes 300SD (126 chassis sedan) to replace the electric motor cables. That seat had four electric motors built into it, one huge frame with all metal gear transmission. Must have weighed well over 100 lbs. That seat never clunked or moved. Maybe if GM built something like that, they would never have problems.
  10. Why are they advertising fully boxed rigid frames as the best solution? They obviously have some serious drawbacks too.
  11. Did they work before? Maybe your wiper motor quit. I am sure it is pretty easy to check for the voltage at the motor connector with the switch turned on. There are alternatives to electric wiper motors. Mid 1967 Ford Thunderbirds had hydraulic wiper motors utilizing pressurized power steering fluid. The wiper speed was infinitely variable. Older Army trucks have air wiper motors using pressurized air to drive the wipers. Again, this provides infinite speed adjustment. Really old cars used to have vacuum wiper motors, which also provides infinite speed adjustment capability.
  12. * It has lower noise and vibration levels than a WWII T-34 Russian tank.
  13. A chattering torque converter can certainly cause transmission vibration that is then transmitted through floorboards and seats.
  14. You may want to check your driveshaft for any radial runout or wobble as shown in this clip:
  15. Bad truck vibration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-oAEe76vFE
  16. No, it isn't. My '06 Silverado does not have it, my '09 Impala does not have it, my brother's 2013 Infiniti G37 6MT does not have it, and my 2013 Chevy Sonic does not have it. The first two vehicles listed have automatic transmissions, the other two have manual transmissions.
  17. Very low end professional grade.
  18. Harleys only vibrate at idle - it is the nature of the beast. Once underway they smooth out quite nice.
  19. Hey Silver Spaceship, shouldn't you change your forum name to "Silver Shakeship"? Just kidding, I hope you get those vibration problems resolved. I have been there with vehicles before and it definitely can be frustrating.
  20. Please post your findings. This is certainly a challenging problem.
  21. Apparently, that 500 mile rule, if it is valid, only applies to adjustments such as alignment or wheel balance. If your truck does not start at 100 miles, then they obviously must fix it.
  22. What?
  23. The name of the game is to put crappiest, cheapest parts on the truck and raise the price at the same time. That's how you maximize profits.
  24. Well, it looks like "recirculate" actually means "redirect outside stench into your vehicle".
  25. And 20% reduction in fuel economy. For example, a 2007 Impala with the 3.5 liter V6 gets about 17 MPG, a 2004 Ford Explorer 4X4 12 MPG average on this stuff. Both vehicles do at least 20% better with E10.
