My 99's "service engine soon" light came on and I haven't purchased the EFI Flash Scan yet like I had intended.

I have to figure this out and fix it over the weekend so my brother can use it for a trip Monday. I'm willing to buy a cheap code reader or just have it read by someone. Any suggestions on either?

Hi Chuck,I bought this scanner last year for about $150 at Pep Boys.It reads all codes for OBDII systems and works great.Comes with an instruction book and CD,you might check it out

Acutron makes a basic reader thst sells for around $70. it reads codes and clears them. It is not as nice as the one shown above. Most parts dealers have the capability to scan the vehicle for you and will do it for in hopes you will buy what ever is needed at their store.

I didn't want to buy an interim reader since I was planning on getting the EFI laptop system, but I may have to.

Thanks for the offer. But, I had to do something today. Bought a Actron 9175. Probably will buy the EFI Flash Scan later. Will keep the Actron in a crash kit for traveling with the ol 99.

BTW, I'm in Torrance. ...and Justin was gonna put me on the list of customers to do a custom/dyno tune when he came out this spring. I purchased a mail order tune last winter. I didn't get an appointment notice when he came out. I'm still not happy with my tune/truck. Has a big flat spot that I wanted to get rid of. Bothers me to no end everytime I drive it. Need help.

Turns out the SES light was a 02 sensor heat fail code. I had a 02 sensor in my kit for the last 4-5 yrs knowing it would go sooner or later.

I know the area. Over by Cookin Stuff and Texas Looseys. I'm a couple miles away from that near PCH and Hawthorne Blvd. , Walteria is what the area is called. Actually, I'm up Hawthorne blvd about a half mile up onto PV nearly on the city limit. Hey, my Actron didn't come with a Crown Royal bag.

Justin talked one of his protege's thru the crank relearn. The guy with the red turbo truck from Hemet. Please put me down for a custom or even dyno tune next time Justin is in SoCal. Temecula is no problem for me. The hesitation is really grinding on me. Kinda takes away from the enjoyment of driving it.

Did you ever let Justin know about the issues you are having? We do post up when he has slots available for tuning when he is in SoCal but it is mostly a case by case basis. Please email him so he can put you on a list to get the in person tune.

I thought I did all that and gotten a confirmation that I was on a list for his visit in the spring and would be notified when he firmed up his schedule to travel to SoCal. I never heard from him. I'll send another. Nobody ever calls anymore
