Mud Flaps And Splash Guards

I've begun to notice a bunch of crap along the bottom edge of my doors when I wash the truck, and I'm thinking that a set of mud flaps is in order. I really do not want to drill the truck to install any though.

 

I have found some WeatherTech ones that don't require drilling, and they are on my list of possibilities. Would like to hear from anyone that has had them for awhile.....

 

Do the GM molded splash guards require drilling the fender to be installed?

 

Any other suggestion? I'd like to get some installed before winter.

GM molded guards do not need drilling for the fronts. They attach in existing holes. The rears do require drilling (and tire removal to install). The screws with the kit have sealant in the threads to minimize rust.

 

Noticed the same concern with crap up in the "V" notch under the doors and drive through way too much road salt for this to be an acceptable design. Ended up buying cab-length stainless steel running board style steps which stopped the problem.

No drilling for the front GM ones. Drilling for the rear GM ones.

With my molded GM ones I had to drill for either the front or the back. I'm not sure but I think it was for the back because the front used the holes utilized by the plastic inner fender. They were just llittle 3/32 holes though

I have the Husky brand(Cabelas), I think I had to drill 1 hole for each of the front flaps - tires didn't need to come off - I'm fine with how they look - have them on both the Tahoe and Yukon XL - I think they do keep the crap off the lower side of the vehicle and also off the running boards............

I installed the front ones with no problem, but the back ones needed about 4 holes to be drilled. So I drilled the holes and sprayed them with tremclad paint before I put the clips on for the screws. They were the Husky mudflaps.

I just tried to put the No-Drill Weathertech ones on the rear of my friend's 09 Tahoe and there was about a 1/2" gap between the body and flap in a couple spots. They didn't fit at all....not even close. They were sent back and he is going to put on some genuine GM ones.

ive put them on before and work good

 

another thing to do is fill it with silicone caulk use alot of it on the skinny part that usually goes up the truck a little bit and it wont rub on the paint either it will actually stick to the truck

Looks like everyone that has the GM flaps is pretty happy with them. Guess I'll just have to get over drilling holes for the rear ones.
