Funny Thing Happened This Week

I ordered a locking tailgate handle from GMPartsDirect on July 20th. It was "on order" even after my DIC switch shipped, so I figured they were waiting on the shipment from GM themselves. It finally shipped and arrived Tuesday.

It came in a box about a foot square and two feet high. I looked at the box and thought "Gosh, than thing must include all the cables and rods too!" So I opened the box and found another box inside. I thought, "OK, that's probably the handle." Then I found another box and thought "OK, that's probably the bezel." Then I found another box and thought "Hmmm, wonder what that is; the rods or something?" Then I found another box. What the.... :D

I looked at the boxes and they all have the same label and part number on them. So I open one. It has both the handle and the bezel/lock assembly in it. Complete. Looks like they shipped me FOUR lock assemblies!

I emailed them and told them I had received four and they responded that they would send a FedEx pickup notice to get the other three at no charge to me. AND issued me a 10% discount code on my next order as a thank you! :D Very kewl, GMPD!

I may have to order a crate motor or something!

Be careful with GMPD, very shoddy customer service at best.

I agree.

Holy Crap! No wonder they charge what they do. I'm with Mike ^^^^.

Ironically with the "2nd edition" of my center console swap, I opted for the console with the air ducts running through them this time around and GMPartsDirect was the lowest price some of the parts that I needed to make it happen...but I am hesitant to order anything from them...

Nah, that wouldn't be right. I'm only treating them the way I'd want to be treated. Sounds like they're doing the same.

I've read lots of comments like this on the forum, but only after I placed my first order. I compared prices and took the plunge. Even while I was waiting on that order, I placed a second order with them because of their prices. Both shipped in a reasonable time frame, albeit with little advance communication. I haven't had an order problem yet (this issue notwithstanding), so I can't comment on their customer service. However, my orders were fine and the prices were good; even with the high shipping charges.

I only posted this to give you guys a chuckle and to give GMPD some feedback. Everyone makes mistakes along and along. If I had shipped four items by mistake, I would appreciate someone returning three. The 10% discount code was just icing on the cake.

Be sure to take advantage of the small print which essentially says: "no returns will be accepted on parts that were ordered without first confirming the correct part number through GMPD" Basically, when you get a part number from the online catalog you have to email them the information you picked up to confirm it is correct. That actually came in handy because the part number I had for the thermostat I ordered was wrong (MS3Dale got me the right one). That was confirmed from GMPD. Just saying, heed the fine print.

I have bought a lot of parts from the over them years and never had any problems. Even with the S&H it still is a lot cheaper than the local GM dealers who will not discount any parts or accessories one penny.
