Just got a 2000 Silverado Z71 and it has the engine service light on. Had a scanner hooked up and it threw out a P0706 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Range/Performance. How does this affect my truck and how do i go about fixing it. Also, it gave an EGR trouble code (cant remember which one), should i just replace the valve? Thanks.

The problem with the range switch is that is could also be a wiring or electrical connector problem. And which switch and WHERE is the switch located?

So it would be easier to troubleshoot this problem with a GM factory service manual set. This will tell you everything you need to know. Complete troubleshooting instructions. Also explains how things like this operate and what their function is. Order from helminc.com or a GM dealer.

You would also need to know how to use a multimeter for testing. How to use a multimeter...

Also take the VIN number of your vehicle to a GM dealer and find out which specific transmission you have if you don't know. The service manuals will have 3 or 4 different transmissions listed. Ask at the parts counter.

As to the EGR, try cleaning it. Search google.com for the words: clean egr valve
