Bilstein 5100 Shock Question

Hey Guys, I just ordered a set of Bilstein 5100 Leveling shocks and I have one question. I am planning on doing the install myself, using a coil spring compressor. Can I turn the nut on the spring compressor using hand tools or will I need an impact?

Thanks!

I think you might be able to use a ratchet, but you might need a cheater bar. It was a pita with the OTC StrutTamer, I'll be getting the 2:1 gear box for it for next time.

The coil spring compressor wasn't necessary for my shock install on my 04, not sure how much of a difference there is on an 07. But if it is remotely the same, you should be able to put your truck on jack stands and remove the shocks pretty easily.

Thanks, the 07-09s have struts instead of shocks, I think I will let the local 4 Wheel Parts install them. I don't want to have a spring pop me in the head! They quoted me $220 which isn't too bad.

If you pull the coilover shock/spring assembly out yourself, a local autoparts or chassis shop will compress the spring and move them to the new shocks for not much. I think one of the other guys that did this mod went that way. If you use a spring compressor yourself, make sure it's rated for a spring of this size. You could get hurt bad if it fails.
