Need Help With Correct Tire Size On 2009 Gmc 1500

hello everyone,

I'm a nubee to the forum, but definitely not new to GM cars and trucks. This is actually my 3rd GM truck and I have to say, this is the best truck i've ever owned.

I just recently bought a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab 2WD and I'm trying to accessorize it a bit.

Some of the mods that I've already done are: AMP power running boards(bad ass), 6000K High/Low HID Kit, Fosgate sound system, 2.5 inch front leveling kit, chrome door handles, AMP bed-extender, Denali style grille, and Moto Metal 956 17X9 chrome (NOT installed).

I just bought a set of wheels, but I'm stumped on what size tires to go with.

The wheels I bought are "Moto Metal 956" 17X9 w/4.5 backspace and -12mm offest. I want a more aggressive looking stance where wheels and tires stick out slightly, I'm not really big on the OEM setup where the wheels/tires are flush with the fenders.

I guess the big question is. What is the biggest tire I can fit without trimming or having rubbing problems? Remeber I already leveled out the front which raised it a full 2.5 inches.

I'm getting mixed suggestions from different folks. Some say the biggest tire I can fit is 285/70R17 and others swear 315/65R17 will fit with room to spare.

Any feedback from members that have actually used larger tires would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm running 285/70/17 with some different rims and they rub a little at full lock. I have seen some people running 305/65/17 without any rubbing. It is all going to depend on the backspacing of your rim.

Cool thanks or the feedback.

I know there's others on here running a similar wheel/tires combo that I described in this post.

Come lets hear some input.

Thanks

I have a 2inch leveling kit with 285/70/17 and they havent rubbed any. I was going to get some 305/65/17 but they were just a little bitter shorter than the 285 but they would've been wider.

OK.

I pulled the trigger and bought a set of "Toyo Open Country A/T" 285/70R17 (D) Rated. Hopefully they won't rub too bad.

I was actually torn between the "Toyo Open Country A/T" and the" Nitto Terra Grappler".

What would you have gone with?
