MarkD Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Does anyone on the board do metal fabrication? Has anyone thought of making a belly pan for their truck? I know higher end cars and exotics do it, indy does it, and top speed cars do it. I know our trucks aren't much better than pushing a brick through the air, but what do you guys think? Could it be worth it? Just an idea. Mark
tobias Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Seems like the cost and additional weight might negate any minuscule gains from something like this.
Silverado4x4 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Seems like the cost and additional weight might negate any minuscule gains from something like this. Not only that but all the traped heat from the exhaust system.
MarkD Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 I was thinking something along the line of what I have seen before on guys that have modified street cars for cross country races. Also, I was mainly curious about cleaning up under the truck, not an air tight seal. Maybe, at most 2 sheets of 1/8 inch aluminum (100 lbs maybe). With all of the cavities under our trucks, I am sure the airflow has to be crazy. My 03 is pretty much flat to the back of the skid plate under the oil pan. No thoughts on cleaning up from the oil drain plug back to the spare?
