Slow Speed Shutter After Adding Lift To 2009 Gmc Sierra

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2009 GMC Sierra 4x4. I put the 2.25" Readylift kit on the front and replaced the 1" block on the back with a 3" block. When I had only the front lift added, there was no problem. When I added the rear blocks, I began to notice a real mild shutter when I'm at very low speeds, mostly when almost at a complete stop when breaking. The install was pretty straight forward and simple. Anybody have any ideas what might be causing that? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Jeff

Did you have it aligned after the front end lift? Very important from what I've learned around here. Lifting changed camber.

Yes, I had it aligned after I did the front end, but before I did the rear end. I didn't notice the "shutter" until I did the rear end.

Man, there's not much activity on this forum. I was expecting a lot more posts. I would like to hear from some people that have put a 3 inch block on the back of a 2007-2009 GMC/Chevy to see if anyone else is experiencing this same problem. Just a thought... could the new angle be putting the drive shaft in a bind?

This is where I would look first. I had a 01 Jeep Wrangler that I lifted 3 inches. Afterward I noticed a lot of vibration when I would get into the gas a little. I ended up having to put 1" spacers between the frame and tranny skid plate because of the altered drive line angles.

Lifting the rear 1.5" shouldn't cause any problems at all. I have not had any trouble with any of the various blocks that I have installed on my truck. I would go back and make sure that the u-bolts are properly torqued. Did you by any chance install new wheels?

Thanks for the replies! I'm still using the stock rims and tires. I added the front 2.25" lift, had an alignment done, and drove it around for about a week. Didn't notice anything wrong with the ride. I put the rear lift on and immediately noticed the slight vibrations. It's mostly noticeable only at real slow speeds, but is really noticeable when coming to a stop. Blackout07, I didn't get any specs or instructions with this lift. It wasn't used, but wasn't "new in the box". I'm thinking about pulling it apart and re-installing it. What kind of torque do they recommend on something like that? I do the ocassional work on my vehicles, but I don't do a whole lot of wrenching. Thanks for the help! -Jeff

I have the same shudder and I only have the front leveling kit, no rear block. I have been wondering what it is as well. I thought it was my tires as they are Mickey Thomson ATZ's but it may not be as yours are the stock wheels and tires. If you figure it out let me know.

I honestly couldn't tell the exact specs, just make sure that the blocks are properly placed and that the u-bolts are good and tight. Are you getting any warning lights, such as ABS?

Check to make sure that your upper balljoints are tight. Did you hold them in place with an allen wrench while tightening them up? If not, then I will guarantee that they are loose and are moving while on the brakes.

I have a similar set up - RC lower (2") and RL upper disk (1") with the RL rear block replacement ( was 1.25 now 3.00 ) - with no issues ,, the u-bolts I torqued to 80 Foot Pounds

I would agree with the board and recheck / re-torqued bolts to spec ,,

Hey guys, I've got a very busy week. I plan to re-do the rear end and check out the front as you mentioned in your posts. I probably won't get to it for another week. I'll let you know what comes out of it. Thanks for the help!
