Resetting The Tire Psi Display

OK, I am not sure of the technical name for the thing that gives you your tire readings, but mine is off calibration. I had it in to the dealer earlier this week to take care of a bad tire issue. They rotated the tires, and ultimately ended up replacing a tire (under warranty). The tire that was bad was the LF. Now the LF shows @ 34 psi, while the rest show about 30-31. I manually checked the tires myself, and they all show 30 psi. I am on vacation now, and could take is to a local dealer, but don't want to spend the time waiting, I want to enjoy my vacation. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice if it was working. Is there is a way I can reset it myself? Thanks.

Don't think you can "reset" these, but you might try the Re-learn procedure outlined in the owners manual.

Maybe they damaged that TPMS sensor in the rim when they swapped out the tire, although a few psi difference isn't really that big of a deal and might be consider normal...

I would venture to say that the TPM (tire pressure monitor) in the tire is bad, and there is no calibration. You would just need a new one (TPM is actually part of the valve stem but on the inside of the wheel).

The TPM system is only intended to warn of low air pressure in the vehicles tires. You were correct in checking all tires with a known good gauge and to not rely on the TPM system. All systems are off by some amount don't worry about it and enjoy your trip.

The DIC shows about 2 psi lower than the actual sensors read, not sure why. I have the OTC 3833 TPMS tool which shows what the sensor is broadcasting.

2 psi differental is normal even my 08 CTS4 & Vett will show 2-4 psi difference.

That's good to know. It bugs me to see 35, 35, 36, and 35. I like things like that to be tidy.

It's normal to show 35 at the sensor with the tool and 33 on the DIC? That sounds wrong to me unless they do it on purpose so people will fill their tires a little earlier than needed if they only go by the light.

You cannot possibly get two or more gages analog or digital agree 100% due to variance in calibration, temp, humidity or barometric pressure all vary at any given time. Any gauge reading is just a number, your blood pressure too can very on more than one reader.

Maybe I'm not explaining correctly, it's the same device reading the pressure. I use my tool to pull the pressure reading from the sensor in the tire, then I look at the DIC (which reads from the same sensor) I get a different pressure. There is 1 piece of equipment that both items are getting their information from. They should be the same.

I know what you mean and I wish mine is exact as well. I have one tire

that is constantly off by 2 or more PSI. Dealer did the reprogram re-learn

thing but no luck. I just live with it.

Before I had the tire trouble, they were all in a pound of each other. But, I hadn't actually checked it with a gauge at that point. Still puzzles me. I will take it back to the dealer after I get back from vacation. I have a couple of other minor issues for them to look at.

I've never had any trouble with mine. A few times a year I check the DIC against my tire guage and they always match perfectly.
