Counteract Electronic Rust Prevention

Not sure if this has been discussed before but I thought I would bring it up since winter is coming. I bought one of those counter act rust prevention systems and I’m going to install it here shortly. Everyone knows rust doesn’t happen overnight but will post again once I see what this thing does. I know there’s lots of controversy over these systems but it was on sale and I had a CT gift card and a huge stack of CT money so I bought one. If it does what they say it’s supposed it should pay for itself in time. The science behind them is all true and they use the system on plough trucks, aircraft, and gas station on thier underground fuel tanks, I know that its mandatory that all shell stations have them. If anyone has used these systems please comment on how they made out.

Thanks,

Chris

I'd say pure crap.....aircraft? I worked military aircraft for 25 years, never saw one installed on any of the airframes that I performed maintenance on.....good luck! :)

Not necessarily true, they use steel tanks that are wrapped in fiberglass. Some jurisdictions require that sort of system be used, but I’ve only came across that once in 10+ years and probably close to 400 fuel stations. Every other time we use hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope coated with Asphalt Coating.

They probably have an old station built 15-20 years ago or more, but with new technology they have gone away from that kind of stuff. The only time we ever had to do it was in some BFE Montana town. That hadn’t had a new fuel station in over 30 years and the plans reviewer’s dad told him they used to have to put them in so he made us. Either way you have it, use it and let us know how it works.

My brother-in-law had one on his '89 Chevy K2500. The truck was badly rotted-out within about 10 yrs. In theory it works. In reality, there is probably not enough ground continuity on a vehicle to work correctly. In addition, the chemistry is not in your favor...salt brine between two metal surfaces will still produce electrolysis corrosion.
