High-capacity Aircleaner Or Standard

I have an 08 Silverado CC 4x4 w/ 5.3L. I need to get a new stock intake box but I want to make sure I get the right one. I need to know if I have the high-capacity or the standard box. What is the RPO codes for both of them so I can look it up? Any other way to tell which one I have?

I am sure if i check my book i could tell you but i am at work now. I was wondering if anyone knows as far as the OEM filters which one might flow better?

K47 is the RPO for the High Capacity air cleaner. Don't know about the regular one.

Same box, the high capacity filter has more pleats and just holds more dirt, does not flow better.

The air cleaner box/housing itself is the same,Its the air filter element itself thats different.

And like GeoHawk said,K47 is the code for the high-capacity air cleaner,There is no code for the "regular" air cleaner,You either have K47 or you don't.

When I replaced mine, I was told "they are the same" and the place only had the regular one so I took it. I expected absolutely nothing to happen. My throttle response was significantly worse. I said screw this and got a high capacity filter and noticed a big difference.

 

I want to make it clear than I did not expect better performance or anything from changing out the filter and I noticed a drop. I can't explain it because the 2 look real similar, I didn't count the pleats.

The high capacity part means it will hold more dirt before you have to change it or hold up better under dusty conditions.

 

I have never read any where that says it will flow better. They both use the same filtering media , just one has more pleats to hold the extra dirt.

 

Now if they both flow the same when new and down the road they have accumilated the same amout of dirt the high capicity could let more air through for the simple fact that all its pleats are not filled with dirt. Now thats just me thinking out loud.

on some brands, the high capacity also will have a foam precleaner glued to the bottom.. I know fleetguard has the precleaner

That may be but the orginal discussion was about the GM OEM air filter.

Actually, it was about the air BOX, specifically the bottom half of it. I drilled holes in my for better airflow and need to get a new one. I wasn't sure if there was a different in the airbox on the high-capacity vs. the standard box.
