Ebay Fuel Pumps

is this truely a case of get what you pay for? I wonder if theres any track record for these from user'sn that took the chance.

 

my fuel pump one way check valve is bad and i have to cycle the ignition 4 times so it will start right up.

 

i did put a guage on the shrader and it bleeds to 0 as soon as the engine is shut off.

 

wish there was a quick fix.

In my experience, yes, for everything.

 

My 99 Silverado fuel pump died (in the GM tech center parking lot!) and I had

it flatbedded to the dealer. On the way the driver and I had a conversation on

fuel pump failure. He told me to get an oem or we will be seeing each other again

in the near future. Seems he had a high rate of retows as the replacement pumps

were non-oem and failed within 6 months . He towed one guy 3 times until he

finally had an oem pump installed.

I disagree. If you go to a quality auto parts store, the aftermarket pumps can last as long as the OEM pumps. I have had my fair share of old used cars, and whenever I would have to chance the fuel pump, I would only have to do it once. The OEM and aftermarket pumps are made with the same components, and are sometimes made side by side. I would't go on ebay to purchase a fuel pump, but I'd definitely use one from a reputable auto parts store. Good luck.

the ebay pumps are $69 and say they pack a lifetime warranty

 

you start reading about the warranty and you would have about a %0 chance of them ever backing it unless it was a instant failure.

 

 

ill check tjhe local parts store and see what they have, im not working so money is tight but i wont get stupid since my truck still runs

Plus all the downtime while you're fighting with them and waiting for them to send the next pump.

I buy and sell on Ebay all of the time. I would not buy a fuel pump,water pump,alternator,starter etc. Not because of getting a cheaper non reliable part, just because the what if factor, what if it does go out, who's going to warranty it and how long is it going to take. Accessories and add ons yes. Go to your local auto parts

... my mechanic put an aftermarket fuel pump (Airtex) in my truck this year ... from NAPA ... (hold off.... I know everyone dumps all over Airtex and other non-GM, non-Delphi fuel pumps) .... and when this new Airtex continued to whine and squeal after two weeks, he replaced it under full warranty... no extra cost to me for parts or labour (dropping the tank)... Hey, I couldn't ask for better service.

 

.. you won't get that kind of warranty or service from any ebay seller/supplier ... so for critical mechanical components go to your mechanic or your local reputable parts dealer... it would be ok to get accessories from ebay if they are cheap... but not for something that risks the reliability of your truck.
