Installed My Slp Bumber Cover

Well I loved everything about my 2008 Silverado - except that it looked like it had "cheeks". So I bought the SLP bumper cover. Thanks to good info from Irv, Dlewis, and sbc408 - the job was made easier.

To those who do this: learn a lesson from me. Although the instructions from SLP say you can install with the grill in place DO NOT DO IT! I tried it the lazy way and the install looked like crap. I was not able to slip the cover back far enough before the 2 sided tape grabbed. It looked like sh!t. I then had to remove the grill, pry off the cover using a wide wood chisel, replace the tape and re-do it. After receiving helpful tips from the folks above - removing the grill took me 15 minutes.

The purchase: I bought the full cover (includes upper and lower). I bought the unpainted version for $139. I just couldn't bring myself to pay $359 for the painted version. I had it painted at the local Pontiac dealer for $140.

The install:

First remove the 8 push pins. It's best to just remove both parts of the push pin - the pin and the sleeve.

Then remove the 4 bolts that are part of the grill (10 mm socket)

The next part is the hardest part - and it really isn't that hard (once my friends here provided some good tips). There are 6 clips - 4 across the lower part of the grill and 2 in the middle. Just squeeze the clip, and pull outward on the grill. I had to stuff a small rag behind the grill as I released each pin - because the grill / pin kept popipng back in place.

And that's all it took to remove the grill.

Here's The finished product. The paint match is better than it looks. The "cheeks" and front of the hood have 3M clearshield which has yellowed.

Looks pretty good!

Any new angled shots?

Thanks Daddy! No new side shots. It's raining here. Once I wash it I'll post some more pics. I need to replace my signature pic anyway - I have added window tint and GM oval step bars.

Then Friday Im going by a local body shop that does good work so Im gonna stop there and ask about painting mine.

Looks Great, so much better than seeing the chrome bumper cover :(

Dumb question, can you still mount the front license plate bracket? I have gotten 1 too many tickets here in Ohio for not having front plates visible

I think you could get a different mount than it takes now for the plate. I've been pulled over for that as well.

BTW, I love it, and I'm looking to get mine over the winter.

I was looking into getting this same cover last year right after I got my painted grill, but was unsure of how it would look or if it would hold up. I don't doubt that the tape sticks well to the chrome but how did it seem to stick to the plastic lower portion? Looks good :(

I haven't put mine back on cuz I'm waiting to get the 3M put on that piece. But Ijust went out and held it in place. It looks like it will fit - no problem.

The bottom 2 screws will need to go through the lower part of the new cover. I might just leave those out and put a long drywall screw through the middle of the plate holder - and into the black plastic part behind.

It stuck just fine. I had to work at it to pull it off for the re-do. You have nothing to worry about.
