Oil Drip..warranty?

Recommended Posts

Posted

ok guys... I pulled my 07 -Silverado out of the garage today and noticed a very small drop of oil on the ground.

After crawling under the truck it is either coming form the drain plug on the oil pan or the pan itself..

Would an Oil leak be covered under warranty? I have almost 12K on the truck and original purchase date is 12/1/07

thanks in advance..

GM standard since '07 is 5yr/100K. Every GM vehicle gets it, regardless of brand (though I heard from an unconfirmed source that the Corvette does not get the standard warranty - if that's wrong, please say something). You have to ask the dealer if you want a different warranty at purchase time.

Both my 07 GMC Sierra 1500 and 07 Z06 Corvette use the same drain plug, and they both dribbbbbbble. The rubber gasket embedded in the plug is inadequate. I just added a nylon washer, available at any parts store, at the last oil change. Problem solved on both cars.

Drive train warranty is 5yrs/100,000 miles, rest of vehicle is 3yrs/36,000 miles on Chevy & GMC products.

Buick and Cadillac have 5yrs/100,000 miles drive train warranty, rest of vehicle is 4yrs/50,000 miles

Take it in to the dealer because it may be covered under Powertrain Warranty. I'll go out on limb here and predict that it's either the oil cooler gasket, or the oil pan gasket that's actually leaking, not the plug itself. Both very common problems and my truck has had both replaced. Also the rear main seal tends to be weak. :idiot:
