Enduring A Problem

So how long have you let a problem go like clunking slip yoke, intermediate steering shaft and other noisy bothersome problems go? My buddy put 90,000 on his Silverado with his slip yoke clunking the whole time. He said it didn't bug him. That would have driven me bonkers.

My slip-yoke clunks, and my i-shaft ba-bumps, and neither bother me. Why? Because I know what they are, and that neither are causing any damage to anything else. If there's a new noise, I always investigate, and decide whether to do anything about it once I know the cause, and what other issues it could cause.

I guess you could call it informed laziness?

Guilty as charged here. Mine's clunking, and I may never have them fix it.

I fixed mine in 15 minutes on the driveway. WOO HOO it sure is better now!

Damn it...now you're going to expose my outright laziness.

If an when I fix it, I'll have to make sure and post here when I do.

HA! Sorry about that.

I couldn't get over how much smoother mine felt after I did it. You wouldn't think the slip yoke would make much difference.

I'd say something like "I treat my truck like I treat sex..." but that could get dangerous fast

That works well. For me it also comes down to the cost and amount of effort involved in fixing it proportional to how much it drives me up the wall. If it only drives me up the wall a little bit, I'll fix it if it's cheap/easy, but not if it's expensive/hard. On the other hand if it makes me want to claw my eyes out every time I get in the truck, I fix it regardless how much it costs or how hard of a job it will be.
