Front End Grinding Sound

I just got finished installing new brakes, rotors, and rear backing plates on my 2002 Yukon 4WD, and now I'm hearing what sounds like a growling/grinding sound from I believe somewhere in the front end. It is most noticeable upon deceleration. If the sound was coming from the rear I'd worry that taking the axles in and out has somehow screwed things up, but it is a front sound.

 

Any suggestions on what and how to check would be most welcome.

 

I thought I was done for awhile.

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me from what you described.

i agree,does it change in noise turning from 1 side to the other while driving slow? with the wheel/hub loaded and then unloaded

Thanks guys. I notice the grinding sound when I'm just coming to a stop, and it is more apparent when I'm turning to the right. Not sure what you mean loaded and unloaded.

 

I got to thinking tonight . . . when I replaced the front brakes, the pad wear on the right side was really weird. I started a separate thread with a picture of what it looked like when I first pulled the caliper off. Could this uneven wear be caused by bearings?

Think I found the problem. I jacked up each front wheel and rocked it, and the driver's side wheel had a good deal of motion . . . at least a half inch or more. The other side was tight. Bought a NAPA replacement for $125 today. Hope I can get the old one off without too much grief. Someone told me to put an old rotor back on after removing all of the other hardware, and beat against it with a sledge if necessairy. Going to keep that available if necessary.
